So much for a sense of community

They should take a look at renting.

The DOW is underwater after another record drop. Down near 40 % from last year 20% in the last month. Not Good!!! No Joke!!

Of course there are those that have a different view……….

Default "Depression Like Economy" How will Florida fare?

I think that Florida is facing a very serious situation.
Florida will have to see what has worked for it in the past, it will have to go back to it's humble roots: smuggling.

Investing is inherently risky.

You could be right smuggling for barter could be the answer!!

A massive devaluation in any asset class has the potential for serious consequences – first starting in housing we are now seeing that devaluation spread to several asset classes (stocks etc).

We all know about inflation and recession and even depression but few of us really know or hear about deflation. Understanding deflation (google it if not) and seeing the frantic attempts to inject liquidity, coupled with some reports little known outside the beltway I can only assume that the US is trying to stave off the serious threat of deflation .

Worst case scenario (and not unlikely) a massive run on the banking system to hoard cash which is why the government hiked FDIC insurance to 250k. However a run on the system could not be bailed out by the FDIC as they don’t have the funds to cover it

Got your money in a bank - you’re screwed.
Got your money under the mattress – Currency could be worthless - you’re screwed.
Stock Market crashes – already screwed (and maybe for the next 15-20 years)
Got life insurance – you’re worthless!! – You’re screwed
Don’t already have the things you really need (not the SUV’s and Sony Wii’s) – screwed
Got a government job and pension – a good many of you screwed.
Got a corporate job and pension – most of you screwed

Have a bicycle – that’s a good start
In good health – even better
Can provide a needed service or have goods in exchange for a needed product or service – you will have the best chance to survive.

What’s happening today is a game changer!

I have 2 safety deposit boxes... papers and some metal (now I know why silver is not a good store for wealth; box fills up quickly. A little of the yellow.)
Anyways, 2 weeks ago I decided to put cash in the boxes (I have no money in the market, just Money market deposit accounts, which are FDIC insured, I have no mutual funds.)
Went to the bank and requested cash.
Bank officer asked why. I told the officer that I did not believe that FDIC had enough to cover the upcoming bank failures.
Told me I had to wait at least a week and that there was an approval process....
My Cuban was let out of the bottle. I told her "What are you talking about? That's my money!" Told them I'd be on the blogs and calling the Palm Beach rag within the hour....
Manager called me on the phone within 15 minutes, said he had to request a shipment of cash and that delivery would take until Thursday (this was Monday) and that the branch did not have a lot of cash on hand (I was requesting less than 100K and was actually leaving most of the money I had with them on two accounts)
Ok, Wed they had it, now second part: Patriot Act. "What did I want the money for?" "What was my job?"
Contained the Cuban in me, barely. It was very, VERY difficult for me.
I wanted to say "I engage in illegal activities ...."
Oh, where was all this? Hialeah? Little Havana?
Nope, Jupiter, Fl.

That quote is only spoken in Florida, California, Arizona, and New York.

Places like Texas and Tennessee are doing just fine.

Default How many Zeros in a Billion

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
but one advertising agency did a good job of
putting that figure into some perspective in
one of it's releases.

A.
A billion seconds ago it was 1959..

B.
A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C.
A billion hours ago our ancestors were
living in the Stone Age.

D.
A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

E.
A billion dollars ago was only
8 hours and 20 minutes,
at the rate our government
is spending it.
While this thought is still fresh in our brain...
let's take a look at New Orleans ...
It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator,
Mary Landrieu (D)
is presently asking Congress for
250 BILLION DOLLARS
to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number...
what does it mean?

A.
Well... if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans
(every man, woman, and child)
you each get $516,528.

B.
Or... if you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

C.
Or... if you are a family of four...
your family gets $2,066,012.

Washington, D. C
HELLO!
