nadelman is on a distinguished road
Default Moving to Florida & need your help!

Husband has two great job offers...one in Fort Myers and the other in Melbourne. He will be a Psychologist, so while we ARE concerned about finances and cost of living, it won't be so bad on his pay, we're hoping. I have been doing a lot of research and looking stuff up on the internet. From what I've read, Fort Myers has a few nice things to see and do, which may be balanced against the higher cost of living and traffic and lower-rated public schools (?). Melbourne, on the other hand, has a less expensive cost of living, but better schools and closer proximity to the Orlando area besides, with all of the stuff to do there. We admit to being Disney and theme park fans, which is a consideration for us, but not the only one either. We do have two school-aged kids. We have also spent years of living in the south, too, so we know all about the Hurricanes and alligators and whatnot. SO, given the choice of Fort Myers and Melbourne, which would you choose, and why? THANK YOU!

i would choose melbourne. although it is a little crowded, what coastal towns arent? you know?

and with you having kids, melbourne has some of the better schools in the state. a lot of families there, lots to do, beaches, close to orlando, i personally like the east coast of fla a little better. although it is hot in the summer throughout the entire state, the east coast gets a little cooler with a little less humidity. but just wait, from october - early may, it's all worth it.

disclaimer: i dont know much about ft myers, but i am willing to bet that melbourne's crime stats are quite lower.

We just moved from Tampa Bay to Orlando and love it. We also enjoy Melbourne so we would definitely recommend that over Naples.
