My vote would be for the beach on the gulf. This area is more prone to fishermen and boaters because the waters are calmer. While there is plenty of coastline, it is not necessarily "beach" but still nice wading and sunbathing areas. I saw plenty of dolphins while hunting for live shells for my salt water aquarium. If you avoid weekends, you can have the coastline to yourself. Think along the lines of going due west from Orlando, maybe a bit north or a bit south of Tampa.

Satellite Beach or Indian Harbour Beach (which is south of cocoa beach) is WAY cheaper. You may even get a house(not on the beach) or a condo on the beach for the amount your wanting to pay.
Any of these places have plenty of young people who like to surf if you want to get into that.
By local beach, I meant Orlando just like you said . Lakeland is actually closer to the Gulf so I usually go there.

I've never been to Satellite Beach or Indian Harbour Beach so I'll be sure to check them out . Thanks for the info.
