Try the Lake Panasoffkee area. Your husband will love the fishing either from the large lake or a easy drive to the gulf. The schools are small and not overcrowded and you are located in a perfect area to find jobs in Ocala, Orlando, or Tampa area as I-75 and the florida turnpike are minutes away. We can drive to the front of Disney with only going thru 2 red lights and to Ocala or Tampa with not one light. Housing prices are good and on the rise as the federal gov. is putting millions into the lake and area. This area is still a place where you can find a deal and make money on your housing as it is only getting better as the lake is getting close to being finished. With all the canals that are to be done next, the prices are just starting to go up so this is a perfect time to buy and make money or find a perfect house for a lifetime of fun on the water.

Thank-you! My marriage is not the issue here. The point is, he went to the Keys with promises from his former boss, which weren't kept and we cannot afford to live there, so he is doing what he can to find a place we can afford, where he can get to the water to deep sea fish and the kids will have a good education. I appreciate the info about locations, let me worry about my marriage, please. For the sake of our kids, I will try it!

North Florida sounds like what you want....yes, the winters do have some cold temps, but they're not for long!
It's positively gorgeous here, but I'm selling and moving. My place is just too big for my small family.

I've lived in Key West for 10 years with my wife, we now have a 2 year old. Thought we would move to an affordable area, bought a home in Venice, could not find decent work, both of us. My wife is in nursing, they just don't pay enough. The red tide gets so bad in the summer you can't go to the beach without choking from it and its littered with dead fish. The Red Tide seems to be something no one likes talking about in that area but its that bad, it killed my Mother last summer. Long story short, we're back in Key West making more money and yes paying more but we're happier here in Key West, oh and by the way it gets cold up there in Venice compared to the Keys.

I can understand what you are feeling
we were suppose to move to Atlanta for a job promotion we put a contract on a new construction and put our lives on hold for 5 months
I was ready to have a t-shirt made that said
"can't we are waiting to hear on Atlanta"
needless to say due to complications with a merger everything is on hold. we had to cancel the contract on the house and are staying
I woudl say take a look at the Jacksonville area anywhere east of the river and you are maybe 15 miles from the ocean. I have lots of friends that go deep sea fishing and there are even fishing teams.
PM me if you would like some more info
I moved here 15 years ago from NJ and am so glad we are stayign thats how much I love ithere

Melbourne
You should look into Melbourne, great place to bring up a family and A rated schools. I moved here over 7 years ago, lots of sports and family activities and the beach is awesome! Great fishing too!

Florida...it's home!

You want a basement? Florida is the wrong state to look. Florida homes have no basements.
You want to find "family oriented" in south Florida? Again, you are looking in the wrong place. There's no such thing. South Florida is all about money. You have the filthy rich. You have the dirt poor. You have retirees. You have illegal immigrants. You have a disappearing middle class, that's leaving the state. Family oriented is something you won't find in south Florida.

I sooooo disagree with most of these comments. I have lived in Palm Beach County for 30 years and my husband was born and raised here. Yes, to a certain degree things are harder here now, more crime and bigger$$$, but this really is paradise. There are good schools (you must research the area you are interested in) and there are many family oriented activities on a day to day basis, probably too many to even choose. Sports leagues, great church communities, beautiful parks and beaches. Our family is very "middle class" and work hard to keep up with the bills, but we appreciate what we have here. You could not be bored here if you tried.
I feel our biggest problem the last couple of years has been the unbelievable greed of home sellers and people thinking they will "flip" their homes and quadruple their investments. This is what has driven up our property taxes to rediculous heights. Someday,I would also like to acquire some property in the Carolinas or Tennessee, so I could once again enjoy the seasons and yes, maybe save some bucks, but Florida will always be home with all its flaws and many, many, good qualities! Many of South Florida's problems have been self-inflicted and so everyone has to pay the price for the greed. Just my opinion....
