More people struggle with poverty everyday in Florida then those that struggle with which bentley they're going to drive today.

My point, that was missed, is that it was suggested that North Florida is all farmland and it's just not true. Nor is it a lot of redneck trailer parks.
I didn't miss your point. I guess the best beaches are peoples opinions. Caladesi Island is way more beautiful then the picture you posted man. Seriously.

TNRyan, I have read many posts from you and they all seem to be negative in general. I wonder, why don't you move on the the Nashville City Data forum and help those folks out with the benefits of Tenn? I also have lived in the area (graduated fron TSU) and I wouldn't think of focusing on the negatives after I am long gone.......

I personally am looking forward to learning more positives. I think I can make a decent living there (I am a nurse) and my husband has retirement. We are Christians.......and look forward to "having a church on every corner." In fact, I even look forward to the more conservative outlook in general that I am reading about that persists in the Panhandle.
So, I want to learn more about the housing (which, by the way, appears to be less expensive than where I come from), education, etc. Don't really care about the constant complaining you seem to enjoy.
Enjoy Tennessee.......it's a beautiful state!!!!

I haven't been 100% negative on Florida. I'm unbias when it comes to places I've lived and when there are positives in Florida I'll gladly admit to them. Beaches and warm weather is great but when you can't afford to keep your roof over your head and you're living on the beach in the weather, It's not so great.

If you'll notice on my profile, I spend almost ALL of my city-data time back and forth between the Nashville and Florida forum. I'm 25 years old and lived 19 of those 25 years in Tampa, Orlando, and Ft. Myers so I would think that my opinion would atleast have a little more pull then someone from Alaska that's been to Disney once.

As a nurse, You will make a great living for Florida, You're lucky that it's one job field that will always have jobs and fortunatly for you, Florida is no exception in the nursing field.

Churches are everywhere, That shouldn't be a reason because in most places they are on just about every corner. Florida may not be considered a real Southern state by many people but it is still in the south.

You have a profession and that's great. Your life in Florida won't be as bad as the guy out there that's stuck in some backwoods town in the north or mid-west and thinks he's going to come down to Florida and hustle or slap a magnetic sign on the side of his van and make millions doing odd jobs. I hang around to give people advice based on my experiences of living in Florida.

I will have to admit that it's nice to meet a fellow TSU Tiger although it's not on the best of terms, What year did you graduate ? c/o 2006 here.

Edit: I wanted to add that I do enjoy Tennessee and it is a beautiful state. I have gone back to school and have had thoughts of one day moving back to Florida, that's why I hang around so much so that I can keep in touch with what's going on.

Have a nice night.

Thanks, TNRyan for your kind response. I guess it just seemed that you didn't think anyone would be successful in moving to Florida from previous posts I have read. Glad to hear I stand a chance of actually doing ok.....and even liking it!
I graduated TSU 1990. Probably changed quite a bit since then....

After I graduated, our family moved back to California. Missed my mom too much. She's passed away, and now, we are in New Mexico, and I really miss the ocean. Took it for granted growing up, I guess. It's hard to find water in the desert.
California is way too expensive now, and I prefer the warm waters of the Caribbean and the Gulf. I am so surprised to see that there is such clarity in the "Emerald Coast." Only have seen the Galveston, Padre Island area in person, and according to pictures........WOW!! Not really a comparison, is it!
Maybe we will get to talk again soon. I really do appreciate the help I am receiving on this board.
By the way, one of my favorite places ever to live was Dickson, TN....ever been there? We also lived in Lebanon.

I've been to Dickson it's pretty much country out there. I used to live in Mt. Juliet just down the road from Lebanon. I'm currently down the road in the other direction now in Hendersonville.

The panhandle of Florida has its good parts and its bad. I would assume that the job market there sucks pretty hard but then, You have a career that's in high demand everywhere so you won't have a problem.

That area is one of the most prone to hurricanes in the U.S. so def. have an evacuation plan and being in several hurriances myself I'll offer this advice. Hurricanes change paths quite often, If you evacuate... go north instead of east or west

as far as TSU, It's basically still the same.. It's still a HBCU but the racial makeup of the school has pretty much shifted to 50% black 40% white and 10% other.
