It's not really on topic, however I just wanted to mention that I just checked my e-mail and had an e-mail from the Hardee County Correctional Institution telling me that they had received my resume ( I put Florida down as possible relocation destinations because one day, for the right offer, I'd like to come home ) They told me that If I came in, filled out some paperwork, passed the drug and background test that I would be hired.
The job is being a Library Technician for inmates in the Hardee County Jail. The qualifications are a bachelors degree and you have to pass a physical and not be a felon or use tobacco.
It says that since it's an OPS position that there are NO benefits and the starting salary is $9/hr.
This type of job offer is one of the top reasons I left the state. Seriously.

It's the same type of offers I had down there in apartment management. 14 years experience, HVAC certified, where I used to make $13-$17 per hour, I was getting offers of $9.50 to $11.00 as a supervisor. If I got an offer of $14 and up I would be in Florida right now...

Thanks again, for taking the time to point out the hospitals and school information. I will check out the military bases as well. You're the best!
Patti,
Just to let you know, we just found out the newly opened VA Clinic in Pensacola, which is located next to the Naval Hospital, is hiring doctors and nurses. It's a beautiful new ambulatory care clinic. Veterans clinic opens | pnj.com | Pensacola News Journal
To apply, you must go through USAJobs.com, which is the official United States Federal Government job site.

Chris,
I don't know if this job is still open but it was posted on craigslist.org on 10/13 Maintenance Supervisor (http://pensacola.craigslist.org/trd/878001025.html - broken link)
If you have never used craigslist.org, go there, then select Florida, then Pensacola. This job was listed under the "Jobs" heading, then go to "Skilled trade/craft".
You might also go to usajobs.com and search for jobs in your field. This is the government job site. Might find something you like at one of our military bases.

Ryan,
That is really sad...........one of my concerns about moving there is that I would like my son and his family to move as well. I need those grandbabies around. He is not as marketable as I am. Nine dollars an hour for bachelors degree. WOW!
He loves scuba diving, and would like to become a dive master/instructor. I don't know if there is any need for that.........probably a dime/dozen.
We did all agree that we would not one of those staying behind in the event of a concerning hurricane. We will be sure to have a plan in place. What concerns me is the insurance expense........but still checking into all that.
I loved Dickson.........surprised to hear that it hasn't developed more. I used to commute pretty easily, as I recall. Yes, that is all beautiful country. I remember the Mennonites used to drive their house and buggy right up to the door of K-Mart to do their shopping. I thought that was way too cool.
What do you know about the college education system. I understand that, in Florida, that if my daughter attends high school there, that tuition is paid for for college. Is that correct? Or something to that effect?

Good luck
Thanks a bunch! I will check that out! I am cleaning out cabinets and drawers today, tossin' stuff out as tho we are actually moving.
After living in the same house for over five years now, we have accumulated way more than we need.
Yesterday, I found some videos on youtube of Navarre beach sunsets, sunrises, etc. by a guy named Larry. If you haven't seen them, check it out. They are so beautiful!
I also pulled up some information about changing liscensing over to Florida.
So many things to do and coordinate, but we'll get there!
I have many friends that own property in Holley by the Sea and I get mixed replies on their views about HOA. Depends on the family, age, and other factors. I'm not fun of HOA, but is up to the buyer.
I found that website earlier, but the trouble is that the message board is only partially accessable. I tried to "join" so that I could read blocked discussions, but you have to be a homeowner at HBTS before you have full access. I have never liked living with a HOA (only did that once in my life) because we even had to fight to put up a screen door to "their" liking. Forget choosing the color you want to paint your house.
However, it is something to consider..........we'll see.
Another concern that I realize we have..........we have two dogs and a cat. The dogs are pretty good size and not the friendliest to strangers. We haven't rented in so long, that it hasn't been a concern. It will be a challenge to find a rental that would accept them until we can find a home to buy. I wanted to sell this house first and be able to take our time finding the right place for us. So many details to work out......but I am sure that, God willing, everything will fall together if it's suppose to.

I hate to be negative with you again, I had a horrible experience with schools in Florida. College, work, and cost of living were the three things that made me leave.
I had very good SAT scores and had a B average and was not able to get into ANY Florida universities. They all sent me a paper telling me to go to community college and that If I did well there I could get in.
The only problem for me was that I was from a low income family and was depending on getting into a state college so that I could have room and board.
That's the main reason I ended up in Tennessee at TSU because my financial aid covered every cost and I was able to stay in the dorms. Little did I know that I'd get to Nashville and walk into a Kroger Grocery store and walk out making $12.50 an hour and be able to afford my own place.
If I were you, I'd look into the cost of alot of Florida colleges and universities, they aren't cheap like TSU was/is.
