Hi Patti,

Oh gawd yes, we've been to Kernville and Lake Isabella lots of times. Yes, we were just down the mountain from you at China Lake and certainly do know where Los Lunas is, south of Albq down I-25. It's a little harder to get a house sold there than Albq but they do sell.

As far as schools go, I would stay in Santa Rosa County. We have heard that the Pace school district is very good and Milton and also Gulf Breeze (which is nearer the water). We haven't heard anything about Navarre's schools but that is also in Santa Rosa County.

If you are going to try to get a job at Sacred Heart, the drive from Navarre everyday will be tough with the traffic. If you get a house on the beach, you will pay a huge amount in insurance, if you can get it. Taxes in the city limits of Pensacola and Escambia County are higher than in Santa Rosa County. The taxes in Milton and Pace, FL (Santa Rosa County) and insurance are much cheaper.

I would think Pace, FL would be a good fit for you, but again, you are NOT on the beach but it certainly puts you in decent driving distances to most hospitals in P-cola and to the beaches. Not too bad getting to work at all. After living near Albq and in San Diego, and driving in that horrible traffic, P-cola traffic will be a piece of cake. Rush hour traffic in P-cola is like midnight traffic on I-25 in Alq. (no, i take that back...Albq is still worse) Gulf Breeze would be closer to Pensacola to drive but I think the insurance there is higher. Our insurance company would have doubled if we lived there and they would NOT have given us WIND insurance, which is a big deal. Those were two separate things with our company, so you have to make sure your insurance covers both. And, then there is FLOOD insurance which you would get through FEMA if you are in a flood zone.

You can check out craigslist for Pensacola and look at the "housing" section to kind of get a feel for rentals and houses for sales. Another option for you might be to do what we did and rent until you're really sure where you want to live. It's a little harder for you because your kiddo will have to get enrolled in school.

If you have not downloaded Google Earth, you might want to do that and then you can type in the address of houses and zoom in and out to see just where they are located. When we're checking on an area or town or a specific house, we work with three screens up "Google Earth" "City-Data" and another crime statistic site we use.

Sacred Heart Hospital is an EXCELLENT place to work! They have teamed up with M.D. Anderson (which is a very big deal) M. D. Anderson.

I have sent a private message to you.
