Default Sunrico, you are making me want to move!

I have been reading this board for the last few weeks, contemplating our family moving from the Albuquerque, NM area to Navarre. Sunrico, you have convinced me that I would love to live there!
My husband is retired early (a disability) and I am a R.N. Is there any hospitals easy to get to in the area that I would like working in?
We also have a 13 year old daughter that will be starting high school next year. I read that the school system in Navarre is one of the best. Any comment?
I have really enjoyed reading your posts, Sunrico! Thanks for all the valuable information. We hope to be making a trip out there very soon to see the beautiful beaches in person!

We retired back here a few years ago from Kirtland, AFB. We love it here. Santa Rosa schools and I think Okaloosa schools get high ratings. Three large hospitals in Pensacola. Smaller hospitals in Ft. Walton Beach. I don't know about Navarre schools but Milton and Pace are great smaller towns just north of Pensacola and have great schools. Short drive to Pensacola. I think the traffic from Holly-Navarre is pretty bad in rush hour, so could take you awhile to go either way - to Pensacola or to Ft. Walton Beach area.

Good luck!

That's not true, North Fl. is just more country, but it's not for everyone. Some people would rather be closer to beaches than farm land.

I moved here because I never found farms like these in Hillsborough County...

I LOVE farming!
all I'm saying is don't criticize if you've never been here, but we do agree on one thing for sure---GO RAYS!!
Also: found this article in Coastal Living Magazine...
"To find the finest beaches in the world, intrepid Americans might head to Saint Tropez on the French Riviera or perhaps Australia's famed Gold Coast. But the ultimate sun-drenched powder-sand fantasy lies not on some distant shore, but on the coast of Alabama and Northwest Florida."

First, my apologies for a late reply had computer problems...

Navarre is great area that continues to grow and still has a bit of a small town. Yes we have a number of hospitals in the area. The Andrews Institute is the best one and Baptist and Sacred Heart Hospitals are at the top of the list. Should be able to get a job, just think Eglin AFB, Pcola NAS, and Hurlburt Field might be another source of employment.

The schools in Navarre are A+, this is one of the best privileges of the area. Visit the following sites for info. My best advise is to visit and see if this is the place for your family, I believe that you will enjoy it and relocate.

Best of luck...

Welcome to the Andrews Institute
Welcome to Baptist Medical Park Navarre
Welcome to Gulf Breeze Hospital

Wow, I didnt know living in Northern FL took you so far away from the beaches. The panhandle, Jax areas, etc... further from the beach huh? that's new to me! In Fl, you can get to a beach in less than 2 hrs, from anywhere in the state.

Thanks everyone, for your responses! I was raised in San Diego and my children were born in S.D as well. My family just returned from a cruise out of Tampa, and when we got off the plane, we were all moaning, "Why don't we live by the beach?" All of us feel our senses fully alive at the beach. The smell of the salt air, the gentle sea breeze on our skin......
So, I said........"Okay, guys! We do this every time we go to the ocean. What is really keeping us from moving? So, here I am........reading all I can on the most feasible beach that would give us what we are looking for.
We don't want the high Southern CA cost of living, nor the pace that goes with it. I remember years ago, we befriended a young couple from Pensacola while living in San Diego. They were really homesick, and I couldn't understand why when, at the time, I thought we lived in Paradise.
So getting off the plane, I told my family I would look into the Gulf......and boy, was I surprised to see pictures of the Emerald Coast! I had never even heard about it before. Then, I came onto Sunrico's posts. The more I read about Navarre, the more I want to know.
Could it really be possible that we could afford to live in a beach town again? Is it reasonable to expect that we could buy a house within walking distance even? Or should I look at the inland areas within 30 to 45 min to the beach?
I would really like to work close to home. Right now, we live 40 min from my job. I wouldn't even mind working in a smaller community hospital to do that instead of the larger facility. I don't know......something to think about.
We thought we would spend the next 2-3 months getting our house ready to put on the market, and make a trip down to the area soon to explore. Our goal is to be moved before the beginning of the next school year.
There seems to be plenty of bashing for living in Florida, but to tell you the truth......what some view as a negative.......well, we like the idea that it's more "southern" that "floridian."
Thanks so much for your input in this forum! Hope to continue to learn more.
Patti
