Default Okeechobee

I was hoping someone could enlighten me as to what the town of Okeechobee is like. I just inherited a residential lot there (Orange Blossom Ranches) and wondered if it was suitable for living yet. As near as I can tell the roads in the subdivision are gravel (web aerial pics), which isn't a good sign in terms of prosperity or being near "civilization". Has the Fort Pierce/ Port St Lucie growth expanded that far or is it still pretty remote? Thanks.

Okeechobee is not a suburb of Ft. Pierce, or Stuart. It's about 35 miles from Stuart and 20 or so from Ft. Pierce.

It's a pretty big town though. I wouldn't call it remote. There is plenty to do. The only thing it doesn't have is a mall, and that's a good thing.

I'm all for NOT having a mall, or lots of strip centers like much of Florida. However, how are other services? Most notably supermarkets. (any Publix?) Also what is the drive like to West Palm Beach? Thanks

There's a Publix-I think. There's a Wal-Mart, as much as I hate them. It's the county seat. There's a new courthouse, a nice Main Street, the lake. It's big.

West Palm? You can get on the interstate in Ft. Pierce or take the Beeline, which is two lanes, I think. West Palm is not just a quick 30 minute run, like it is from Stuart. It's probably an hour, at least, if not a little more.

Well Okeechobee has a lake , shopping centers < if that is what you call them. It is ok small town. Nothing really to do , more red necks and older retired people. It is not horrible. Good side to it it is cheap alot of mobile homes and trailers also. Good luck
