Brevard County
Hello everyone. My family is really thinking about selling our home in upstate, NY and moving to Florida. We visited the area this past July and really liked it....especially the fishing!!!!!! I am an RN and my wife is currently a project manager for a health insurance firm, but is currently taking classes to be a radiology tech. We are thinking about moving to the Port St John area due to its proximity to the Indian, Banana Rivers and the Coast, but not sure about employment opportunities in the area. Is there anyone out there that is from this area and if so, how do you like it? Also, does anyone have any thoughts of other area's where the fishing is good and close to the coast. We also are lookng for low taxes and insurance. Thanks for any ideas that you can offer.

You would be better off in Titusville, your close proximity to Orlando would also offer many more job opportunities.

Brevard county
Port St. John is about 12 miles south of Titusville and is a real nice area. It has boomed alot with homes in the past 15 years but now there are alot of forclosures, also in Titusville. You have Parrish Medical Center in Titusville and Wuesthoff Hospital in Rockledge on U.S.1., which is about another 12 miles south of Port St. John. Both are good hospitals, even though I can only speak for Parrish. The taxes are the worst. I think Brevard county has really gone sky high on their peoperty taxes and alot of the seniors are moving because they can't afford to live in here on their fixed income. The homeowners insurance is also awful, since we're right on the coast. You just have to call around and get quotes. It's been awhile since I've been fishing in the Indian River but what I can remember, it was alot of fun.

we are looking at the space coast area too. What about Merritt Island? Seems like a nice area. I have mixed reviews about Rockledge. And we looked around Titusville. Not a lot of great neighborhoods in some parts.

We noticed that in alot of areas during our visit to florida. Many of the neighborhoods have a few nice well kept homes and then there are a few that are not taken care of at all. Not sure what to make of that.

I would say consider Merrit Island and Melbourne as well the later will offer the most as to jobs. I think you will find Titusville to be pretty slugish as an economy goes. The home prices in the palces I mentioned are pretty affordable you can even get places on canals and such. The homes on the river or ocean are pretty proud but they are also very nice in most cases.
