Default Centex Homes

I have been looking seriously at Centex homes in North Port. I was wondering if anyone had any information on them from past experiences.
Any help much appreciated.

Centex just let go 141 people in sw florida. I think they might be having problems. In swfl we have had a bunch of investors walk out of there contracts, and leave the builders hanging. There are a bunch of half built homes. Designer1

I would not take a brand new Centex home if you gave it to me. I worked with a sub-contractor for Centex. Too many lawsuits, rushed jobs not done well. Felson is good in that area, as is Allstate. Look for a builder who builds homes, not entire communities.

Be wary of Centex, I have been in my $700K home for two years and am still fighting Centex over waranty issues. They promise you the moon, then disappear after you close.

I'm partial to some of the other local/smaller builders in town. What community were you looking at? That's almost as important as the builder. Here's a website that has opinions of Centex.

Well, just to balance the views off on this thread....

After I posted that (almost a year ago) I set about talking to everyone I could find in Cypress Falls and Cedar Grove (Centex communities).

In all honesty, almost no one had anything negative to say. Quite the opposite actually.

Now mind you, in this recession I guess many builders are "bending over backwards" to please people.

Well that was my experience also. I had house built (I was still in Rhode Island) and there were no problems at all.
The site manager was great to deal with.. he'd call every week... answered all my calls and questions.
The inspections all went fine and there have been no problems since we've moved in.

As a matter of fact, the site manager has helped me out with several things that have nothing to do with Centex or any warranty issues.

P.S. My wife and I can as close as you can come to buying from on of the best local builders. We liked their homes a lot as well, but they never bothered to treat us as serious buyers. Had they followed up, and priced some of their inventory homes more aggressively, I'm sure we never would have accidentally found Cypress Falls in the first place.
We're glad we did now however.

Mikey

Wow! When I posted I didn't go look at the first post that's dated 2-20-07.

That's nice to hear you had a good experience over there. We actually sold a home in Cypress Falls a few months ago and they were very pleased as well.

There are a few other local Centex communities that the people weren't as pleased with the outcome.

OK, now you got me wonderin' who the other builder is. I think I might have a pretty good idea just from what you said

I was just in the Woodlands in North Port yesterday and was researching Centex builders in North Port.

I too am from RI and have been here for 3 1/2 years!

I was driving around looking at houses as there are so many on the market and most are in foreclosure. It is sad what is happening to North Port.

I wonder if the Woodlands is slow developing? Are they not getting the buyers? What they give in a house for the price is amazing. It doesnt seem to me like they have moved very far in past year.
