Gee...this is hard. Three real "gems" that come to mind right off are as follows:

The person who stated that Lakeland is a "horrible city" surely hasn't had the pleasure of visiting these three doozies. Oh baby...really, really seriously scary!

I like most of the major urban areas in the state. I think Key West would be the worst, due to the isolation, small size, less amenities, and hurricanes and flooding. I am also not a big fan of Jacksonvillle or the Panhandle.

I would say the worst places would be isolated places, all those little towns around The Lake. Or the little towns between Orlando and Ocala. I would go crazy living in a place like those.

I agree, DB is pretty bad. I definitely wouldnt live there. It's kind of trashy.

I'd say Perry among those little towns where there is nothing going on outside of long term social problems. US 19 north of Chiefland is the north Florida equivalent of Belle Glade and the Lake Okechobee towns.

Well, I agree and disagree... no, I'm not a local, but a hopeful, but I have spent some of EVERY summer (at least a week or two) of my 28 years in some part of Florida. A lot of it has been spent in and around Daytona. Now, I would NOT live in Daytona itself, and we don't visit during race/bike weeks - we know better... but rather I'd live in Port Orange, New Smyrna, Edgewater, etc. My wife and I are planning to move in a couple years and that's a our likely destination - maybe Vero, also.

My vote would go for Tampa - worst traffic of any place I've ever been... but then again, I've had some bad experiences there. It seems that every year some road has changed, we were in a bad accident there in '95, etc., etc. But it is a beautiful town, though. And I'm headed to Treasure Island in 6 weeks, so...

We moved to Orlando 3 years ago. We've been all over the place, and besides Orlando the only other places I would live are Sarasota and Jupiter/Palm Beach Gardens area. We can only handle Miami in small doses. Naples is a total snoozer. Panhandle forget it. Pretty much any town/city on the Atlantic Coast north of Jupiter is the pits (with St. Augustine being one BIG exception). Gulf Coast is much, much more beautiful but has less culture and stuff to do. For families, Orlando is #1, also Orlando has the best variety of real estate choices imho.

It's all subjective. Take a road trip, see the state for yourself and decide. To each his own!

I would vote Daytona by a long shot. Nothing compares it for me. I just do not like anything about Daytona other then the wide beaches but the roach ridden hotels in Daytona keep us away from the beach for sure.
