I believe that nuclear generated power is probably the safest, cleanest and most environmentally friendly way to produce our power.
I asked the question above because I lived on Long Island and watched the anti-nuke fear mongers force the closing of a fully completed nuclear plant at Shoreham. In the meantime, I would ride on the Long Island Expressway and see the jet turbines that LILCO, forerunner of LIPA, was using to supplement the power needed. Most days, there was a green cloud over these turbines from the emissions. To me that seemed like a dirtier and more expensive way to generate electricity than a nuclear plant.
I would have no problem living near a nuclear plant.

I will take the nuclear plant over coal anyday. And a nuclear plant brings good paying jobs, so it's much to be preferred over a shopping center or real estate development. Best of all it may lower property values, and reduce energy costs. Hey FPL wanna build a nuclear plant in Hendry county? The caloosahatchee river has plenty of places that would be perfect.

You mean, that's not normal?

Interestingly, I read a newspaper article this morning that stated there are 103 nuclear plants in 65 locations around the U.S. I was also surprised to see that the latest one, in Tennessee, was started up in 1996 -- I didn't think there were any that new.
