Like when I built my home smoke detectors were required. After completion they broke down. There's no way a battery powered device can be reliable. Anyway it's the idea they could punish people for not having this junk, that's sad. In a business it makes sense, but in a home? Crazy! I eventually installed a complete fire alarm system that a school threw out. Most likely illegal but it works with a real battery backup. Any law with a person's name on it is repulsive to me. Exploiting someone's tragedy to forward an agenda.

Smoke Detectors and Carbon Monoxide Detectors: Specifies approved types of smoke detectors & carbon monoxide detectors; provides requirements for installation & testing of such detectors; requires existing & newly constructed residential dwellings & dwelling units to be installed with smoke & carbon monoxide detectors; provides penalties for noncompliance; requires DBPR to adopt rules; provides severability.
Effective Date: July 1, 2007.

We have a Co detector in the motorhome and it drives me nuts going off every time I use hair spray, Lysol spray or a spray cleaner.

I agree it's a reaction due to the deaths from improperly used generators following the '04 hurricanes.
