BornInFL will become famous soon enoughBornInFL will become famous soon enough
Oh man, unfriendly experience... I wave to ppl many times within the subdivision, many dont wave back. On the roads, ppl dont use turn signals, dont merge, will cut you off in a NY minute. Customer service is bad, ppl dont ask "how are you?"... etc... etc... Every neighbor we have met, we always had to initiate conversation. I am just used to a friendly environment, as I have lived in small town FL and NC for a large part of my life. South FL and Orlando arent friendly places. I lived in a rural area of PBC when younger, and ppl were still friendly, but times have certainly changed in PBC, and Orlando has certainly followed.

Another example, when I was in a store in the mall, and a famous person walked in. I was a little star-struck, but kept my cool. I said to the person in the store standing next to me (a pretty woman in her late 30's probably), "hey, that's _____" ... thinking it'd be cool to see this person in real life (as my wife and I were the only person who noticed the famous person walking through the door) and she said, "So what, its not a big deal. I live next to famous ppl in Orlando, they all live in my neighborhood. This is nothing for us ppl that live here, maybe it's a big deal to you tourists." I was shocked. First of all, I am a resident of Orlando, she probably just moved here from NY (with that attitude), so I wasnt a tourist, and it totally spoiled the whole moment. I did meet the famous person, but I cant even think about it without thinking of that bit**.

Also, at the same mall, I saw a lady trying to get through the big double doors at the front entrance of the mall but she was having trouble opening the doors because she has a stroller with her child in it. Anyhow, I saw a woman come up right behind her, see that she was having trouble, and INTENTIONALLY walked around her to the next set of doors and totally ignored the woman who could of used her help. I held the door open so she could get herself and the stroller through.

These are just a couple incidents I can think of in 10 seconds...

Thanks for responding about that.

Some of that I would also consider unfriendly, some I wouldn't (like the some of the driving behavior) . . . but I also think that I never expect everyone to be friendly--I wouldn't say that a place is unfriendly if someone doesn't wave or say "Hi" when most folks do (which is my experience in Florida). In some places (like here in the NYC area, in my experience), it seems virtually impossible to get a stranger on the street to wave or say "Hi". Maybe there are places where it would be very odd for anyone to not wave or say "Hi", but I'd suspect that they're smaller towns where most folks know each other, rather than larger towns that are going to have residents from various parts of the country or world.

The driving behavior I would consider rude, not necessarily unfriendly, since there isnt any conversation going on. But I have been in other cities larger than Orlando, like Charlotte and Atlanta, and they do drive better there.

Stay away from Branford (Suwannee County). Definately, not the friendliest place I've ever been to.

Northporter is on a distinguished road
Look into North Port. It is a very young city with lots of new homes at reasonable prices in this worldwide economic slump.

Driving here isn't nearly as bad as back in Boston. But there are some crazies on the interstate. Young pups in pick-up trucks don't like us older folks who drive carefully. I just laugh at their childish one finger hand signals as they fly buy.

We've found people quite friendly since we moved to North Port in 2005. Old timers are helpful to new arrivals if you come here with an open, friendly attitude yourself.

I think the OP is looking for opinions. I don't find a problem with that. If you (a poster) can't find a city that you can offer as being nice, why are you posting. Is it okay to post that that you think it is very difficult to choose because of the mixed bag of personalities, of course, but to basically say the question/debate is foolish, goes against the spirit of this forum. Honestly, if you don't have anything valuable to offer to the OP, then you should move on to a new post where you can. I have to say, I have been to lots of cities on this site, but never to any that are as negative as this one. it is almost as if you have the nay sayers who seek out the good, so they can them be almost combative with anyone whose opinion is different. WHY? (I didn't read every single post on here, but i read enough of the ones that decided the question posed by the OP was unanswerable and decided to make sure everyone knew that in a not so nice way, so to those of you who stuck to the topic, I'm sorry you had to read this.)

Anyway, for me there were very, very nice people in Ft. Lauderdale. However, I'm sure many, many people will disagree with that.

the drivers here in charlotte are awful..there are at least 7 accidents a day, our roads need to be fixed and there isnt any money for them...my parents come to visit on there way home from Florida and they too agree that the charlotte drivers are completely awful and dangerous...

Are you kidding????????????? If I saw someone do that, it would take everything I had NOT to say something. That is awful.
