We put a deposit down on a house
Well, after searching and searching, we did settle on an area and finally, we found a house. We put a deposit on it yesterday and today when my husband went to take some pictures of it, there was a "sold" sign out front!!
I can't believe it. It feels kind of wierd. Too bad I won't be moving into it till May - after I close on my house in NY. Just in time for the really hot weather in FL.

First thing Monday check into homesteading, I forget what the key dates are. You want to lock in the homesteading as soon as you can or it could end up costing you thousands of dollars.

You can apply for homestead at any time but it will not take affect until the following year.
If you were able to apply by March 1st you would be set for next year but since you won't be closing on the house til after that it will not be possible.

You must close by Dec 31, to homestead for the next year. You probably will be lucky and your taxes for 2007 will only be about 300.00 bases on vacant land only. We have bought 3 new homes in past 6 yrs and the first year was always that way.
