I don't think Red Buttons is still alive. Did you get to check out Tanglewood? What did you think?

I go down to Arcadia every other year to vacation with my father in law. He has stayed in Arcadia since 1990. He gets around well for someone 15 year younger than he actually is. He very much has enjoyed the area. Once you settle in you will find people are very friendly. About Arcadia Village I seem to remember a retirement park with very well kept homes. I was there in 2008 and if it's the place I'm thinking we were considering buying in that park in the future. Will probably be back Dec of 2010 all month. Anyway there is a great Chinese restaurant just down the road on the same side as you head for Wal Mart. Hope this helps.

I'm leaning toward a move to Arcadia, from what I hear. Who knows, I may get there and hate. It sounds like a small town with a rural vibe where I can grow my fruit and vegetables and raise a family. Oh, and they seem to not have problems with sinkholes. That's a major plus in my book.

Well, other than Wal-Mart, they really don't have any. You'd have to go to Port Charlotte or Sarasota, as the closest places.

As for restaurants, what kind are you looking for? There are a few in the downtown area near 17 and 70. Wheeler's for one. The KFC and a BBQ place are just south of 70 on 17. The majority of the are on 70 East though.

Arcadia Village is the elite 55+ community in Arcadia. There are 5 or more large RV parks mostly snowbirds and Canadians. Arcadia has a Wal-Mart, Winn-Dixie, Sweetbay, Ace and Tractors. They also have Ford, GM and Dodge automotive dealerships. It is the county seat, and has a library, AG center and small hospital. Downtown in mostly antique and boutique type stores. Known for its rodeo, citrus is the biggest industry.

Arcadia is a nice little town, but like the rest of the Heartland towns (Wauchula, Bowling Green, Sebring, Avon Park, et cetera), going there is like stepping into a time machine. This isn't a bad thing, but not everybody cares for that. Arcadia should have all of your basic amenities, but you'll have to drive to the coast for a mall, Best Buy, and places like that.

Arcadia's downtown has more activity than a lot of other Florida small towns, but it's mostly antiques, like someone mentioned earlier. There are tons of orange trees, which are wonderful when they bloom.

We just visited Arcadia Village as we are researching places to retire.AV fits our lifestyle to a T as we have a RV.The free Rv parking that is included is a great seller.Phil The salesman was just in the Hospital and he said he got excellent care Due to Agricultural Grant the Hospital can only use 49 beds although they have a capacity for 100.He also said all the rooms are private. As far as Trauma goes Tampa is probably the closest Trauma Hospital. It is so close to Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte and with no traffic it took us no time to get their straight down 17.Also easy access to I75.We found the perfect Manufactured home for our needs, but unfortunately we are not quit ready to retire.

i moved to Arcadia Fl. two years ago from st pete beach fl, what a change right ,but thats what i was looking for ,like most people that move to florida i was all about the weather wanting to stay warm but not move out of country but get away from the sinkholes, earthquakes, floods, forest fires, volcanos ect, after alot a research i picked arcadia fl, it is country but there is so many places to go all around i can be back to st pete beach in one hour and 10 min , thats a good get away, one half hour you can be to the coast or beach, i can drive to port charlotte fl in about thirty some minutes to where there is all the shopping, dinning ect that you could want, i grew up in a small town, small, histoical neighberhood back north, just to cold , i llooked high and low for a place that had nice historical neighborhoods, not much crime and not alot of flooding, sinkholes ect and guess what its warm, still livin in the USA. If i ever leave Arcadia FL i will be living abroad which i do not trust , three years we retire so it may not be for everyone but i feel safer here than anywhere in the us and i am warm, oh buy the way there are alot of rivers where you can conoe, fossil , shark tooth hunt, kayak, hunt hogs ect all right hear in arcadia fl ,its what you make it.
