I guess we were fools who never travelled on these roads on holidays before....never again.
I-10 was a 2 lane nightmare and we were praying to get to I-75. We actually got off and took Rt 90 (I think) somewhere up there to get away from 10 mph speeds that went on for hours.
I-75 was no better. crazy drivers going way too fast and 3 accidents (no life loss) in an hour. that just made everything slow way down for hours also.

I've never seen so many cops out pulling speeders over and I was cheering them on.

there's no place like home. until that weekend my favorite road to hate was I-75 around Ft. Myers. Having driven most of the eastern states I've never seen worse driving (West Palm Beach comes close).

AAA said the roads would be LESS travelled. Hah.

I-10 is terrible all the time, and exponentially worse on holidays.

You are right.. traffic is horrible on holiday weekends. I usually try to leave a day earlier and come back a day later than most folks.

seems like a read a report once that i-10 is the most dangerous interstate in the US. things can get out of hand on i-10, but i drive it frequently so i guess i'm used to it.

We traveled from NC to Orlando on I-95 on Saturday....sadly we got home in time to watch the Noles get eaten by the Gators.

While traffic was heavy it sounds like it wasn't as bad as I-75 or I-10.

Glad you made it safely!

We were wondering if there was more reason for the crazy driving than just holidayers. thanks for that info, we aren't sports people. that also explains why we were able to get a room in a Gainesville motel.

I did I-75 from Gainesville to the toll road. It was only moving about 30 mph until I got down beyond Leesburg. I knew better than to try to travel on a holiday evening....so the fault was all mine....but what a nightmare.

I know that feeling...a few years back I visited a friend in Tampa Bay over the Thanksgiving break (I was a UF student at the time living in Gainesville), and it took me four hours to make the normally 2.5 hour drive down I-75 to St. Petersburg. Never again! I try to plan my holiday travel wisely as much as I can, but only so much you can do when you're in a state with close to 20 million people...

You have to remember too, that once you hit Gainesville coming off of I-10 down I-75, you have TONS of students from FSU AND UF merging into one, all going home "South" for Thanksgiving.
