Default East Coast/West Coast

Is home owners insurance cheaper on the east, or west coast?

It all depends on which area of each coast.
There is no constant.

I am 4.5 miles from the gulf and my insurance is under $800.

I believe you have to know the assessed value of the home for taxes and what the replacement value is on the policy in order to make comparisons.

My assessed value is $390K I pay $4800/year in taxes
The replacement cost is about the same $390K I pay $3K for homeowners. I live in Sarasota. When I first moved here in 2005 I was paying $1200 for homeowners.

We are assessed at $375,00, pay $4,500 in taxes, and homeowners is $3K and change. Same coast but farther south.

My replacement value is $359,100 and I now pay $1051.
When I first posted in this thread they had replacement at $335,000 and was at $800.

I was with Citizens but now am not.

I know I should shop around but I am so afraid that if I took on a new company they may decide to drop me after 1 year. I heard this happened to a couple of people.

Age of the home has alot to do with it. My home is a 2005.
I wouldn't worry about getting dropped for shopping around, that is how I got my current agent.
State Farm offered me somewhere around $4500 for the same coverage I got for $1200, this dropped to the $800 and I got a refund check.
Citizens is farming out alot of thier policies and I am now with someone else for the $1051.
I didn't have the time to shop around and thought it was a decent rate anyway.
