I was wondering if Florida had any homeowner's exemptions for the elderly or disabled since many are over the age of 65? The reason I am asking is here I have a coworker who's husband is disabled and she was telling me that they get a huge cut on their homeowner's because of his disability. She and her husband are considering moving now that their 2 kids are grown. Thanks.

Yes, I beleive the last time I checked there is a
homestead exemption (if you live in the property) 25k
disability exemption (need two doctors documentation, social security is not enough) I beleive thats 15k
senior citizen exemption (proof of age) I beleive its 20k

I have helped family members file for these, Im just not sure what the amounts are. If in Dade county go to miami-dade.gov for more info. I am not sure if it difers from county to county

Im sorry I just re read your post and are you talking about insurance premiums or taxes??? I was talking about homeowners taxes. Hopefully the information will help someone else.

Thanks I will let her know.. I dont know if she is really serious about moving or not but I was suprised that we had exemptions here for that when she told me. I wonder, is this break in addition to the regular homeowner tax exemption or is it just a bigger exemption in general?
