Hey, its noon and I'm going for a drive up Fluer to Grays lake to take a walk across it this afternoon. Its a sunny day, a bit windy but I just checked the thermometer and its almost 10 degrees already, so it wont be too bad. Heck I figured I would have 5 or 10 responses by now, don't let this chance to get away from the heat pass you by. I live real close to the airport, come on up and check it out.

back from fla. and what a bummer
we just drove back to Connecticut from North Port, and boy is it a bummer to be back to the cold and snow, we were down there for a week and a half, beautiful weather , we went to the pool almost every day, to the beach though didnt swim, to the Ding Darling wildlife refuge, my fav!!! and to a couple of Dog tracks all and all a great time. Went to Sharkeys in Venice had a great meal.
now its back to reality
I really enjoyed the weather, I want it back

It's 80 degrees and humid in South Florida, again, with no breeze. Just finished cleaning the house (needles and tinsel) after putting the tree away. When I started boiling potatoes for dinner, that was the last straw. I put on the AC, in JANUARY. If it was cold, I would have just put on MORE CLOTHES. The only relief in Florida is to turn on the AC, EXPENSIVE AC.
I was going to go shopping today, but decided I didn't want to go out in the heat. Instead I will just relax in front of my computer in the AC, with all the fans on.
For everybody up North, I have been to the beach, and the pool, 5 times in 2008. All last April and July when my daughter came here. She just went back to NY. This time, however, she didn't even BRING her swim suit. Think about that people up North. Coming from "freezing cold" NY to Florida and NOT bringing a swim suit. How many of YOU would ever do THAT? Anyway, my beach sticker expired. MAYBE I will go get another, someday. Almost not worth using the gas to go get one.
That is my Florida journal for the day. Aren't you ENVIOUS?????
Postscript. I just bought a GoreTex Down Parka online. Of course, you cannot buy that in a STORE in Florida. I am going north in 2 weeks. Plus, my husband and I decided enough Holidays in Florida. We will be spending them in NY next year. HOORAY!!!!!

Last time I visited Florida was 2004 in Feb, camped out at Mayakka and Highland Hammock state parks for about 2 weeks total. It was great, about 80 everyday, slept in my tent all but 2 nights. Stayed at a cheap motel in Sarasota for a couple nights, went down to Ft Meyers and saw the replica of the "Nina" docked there before its journey to Mexico. Did some bike riding on Gaspirilla and saw the lighthouse.
Found a small orchard/chicken farm near Zolfo Springs that let me pick some pails of oranges and grapefruit for a small fee. They even lent me thier picking pole to get the good ones up high. Watch out for the fire ants if you go there, dont look up at the oranges too long and forget about taking a glance down once in a while.
Theres a good bike shop in Sarasota that fixed a busted spoke on my rear wheel and trued it up nice for me, went over to the laundry mat while he fixed the wheel. 7-11 kept me fixed up with fresh bags of ice for the cooler and for mixing up my sweet tea each morning. Mornings were always a bit foggy, but beautiful scenery outside my tent in Mayakka, and the turkey vultures circle overhead with plenty of sounds to stimulate the senses. It was just what I needed, and when I got back home the snow was piled up O-plenty.
Hey, if any of you want to get to know me better before we swap houses for a couple weeks......Just let me come on down and pitch my tent in your front yard for a week or so and let me use the shower in the mornings. I have a tripod for my satellite dish and can even power it up with an AC invertor in my truck, so I dont even need any of your power. Might want to mooch a little computer time off ya, if you dont mind too much.

until I came to this forum, that I spent 58 years in NY with 9 months of winter and 3 months of summer. Amazing all those flowers that bloom in "winter" and all the leaves that turn colors in "winter".
Somebody better rewrite the weather charts. There are no FOUR Seasons; only TWO, Winter and Summer. Yes, everything is just black or white; hot or cold.

"All the complaining about warmth and sunshine, falls on deaf ears to most people who grew up where it WAS winter 9 months of the year."
So why on Earth would you want to come to FL and spend 9 months of summer with temps and humidity at "oppressive" and "uncomfortable" (as the news casters call it) levels?
Why does it make any sense to get one form of misery (freezing temps) for 9 months and trade it for another form of misery (heat and humidity) 9 months out of the year? Does that make any sense? Or maybe I am the only one that thinks it doesnt make much sense.

Just a quick question. What is a beach sticker for? Isn't the beach considered public domain?

If you are a resident, you don't get charged for parking.
