See from what I read and those who I have worked with that are in the first stage of the boomers to get ready to retire, they are far more intelligent and smarter with their money then their parents were. That is why so many of them have larger bank accounts and assets then those who are not in that group.

For me, I see the boomers as the way out of the mess we are in America, they have money and hopefully will be spending it when they start retiring.
Hopefully they spend it in america, the medical field would be very good to go into ...
I agree with this, my dad retiring in a few years... he seems a tight spendthrift, but also likes to make a lot of money and take action... I.E. he and my gf dad live pretty humbly right now... but they have massive bank accounts and assets. Those right behind seem to be the one with big houses nice cars, all that stuff...
My gf dad drives an old beat up truck and lives in a small house, but has another one and lots of property in multiple countries. Who knows how much he has in savings or banks, I can see with my own eyes 20 million in property value though, easy.
I still think this mentality is good, u just have to ride a wave when it comes, me having my whole career from 2003-current, haven't had an opportunity for a good run... but if I get the chance I'm sure I'll make a good run at it as I also live very humbly and bohemian, but plan to quit work at some point and live off whatever I make, same goes with all these other people putting money back in from THEIR accounts instead of their employers accounts.

Sorry you are taking it personal, me and Sunny were not talking about you. Yeah they should be shipped out of the country, into a mandatory draft.

Florida will bounce back big time once the economy starts getting better. For every person that leaves, another two move down. Even on City Data, Florida is by far the most talked about relocation destination. A friend who does real estate down there told me the west coast of Florida is booming now, even in this bad economy. I like Florida and enjoyed my time there!

Florida has the best potential of any state in America to come out of the recession first.

Florida population is growing even during this time of recession.

Florida will bounce back long before any other state.

Your real estate friend should be all over this, an investor group here in Columbus Ohio I know of is buying chunks of foreclosures, short sales and land in Florida. They see it as a better risk then Wall Street that is for sure.

Let's see.... the article from UF says two things we already know:

1) The economy as a whole is preventing people who want to move to Florida from doing so, and

2) The explosive population growth in FLorida during the boom years was real estate based, and some counties that saw a huge growth due to people moving in for construction jobs, is now seeing a population drop as those jobs have dried up.

Groundbeaking stuff!

He is all over it. Doing good but not making as much due to real estate being cheaper now but that will pick up at some point soon too. He said the Tampa, Orlando and Jacksoville are the big boom areas.

He said that a lot of ppl are coming down from other "hot spot" states. Such as NC and TN. It appears a lot of other Northerners moved to these places and realized they aren't much warmer from where they came orginally and are 100x more boring.

Any northerner other then a snowman would know that Florida is not 1000x more boring.

I could find something new to see and do every day the rest of my life in Florida, here in Ohio. Give me a week to find something I have not done or dont care to do.

If anyone is more bored in Florida then in a cold weather state then they should have never moved to Florida in the first place as they are home bodies and stay inside anyway.

I can see tons of money being made in the Florida real estate market in the future or this group of guys would not be putting down 500k cash to get into the group. They are serious investors and have made tons of money in other real estate markets.

He was not reffering to FL being a 100x more boring, he was reffering to NC, TN...those in between states which everyone wanted to move to.

associated with ALL 4 seasons. The company where my husband works recruited a man from Colorado. They were going to pay him over 6 figures plus relocation expenses. He wanted to TELELCOMMUTE because he and his family were avid skiers and didn't want to move to Florida. The majority of people in the north don't hibernate in the winters. The world doesn't start and end with a beach. A lot of people like VARIETY in their leisure activities.

I like ice skating. Is that hibernating? My daughter still plays adult ice hockey. Hibernating? We have friends to who to ski (SNOW) and another who likes snowmobiling.

People who move to Florida for year round summer activities are in the miniority. The majority of people find things they enjoy during ALL seasons, including winter.
