A safe place from sexual offenders: A local law that limits where sexual offenders can live has effectively barred them from moving into metro Orlando's second-largest city.

Deltona last year joined a group of nearly 100 cities and counties that have gone beyond the state law that prohibits many sexual offenders from living within 1,000 feet of certain areas where children congregate.

Great Initiative.....

And now you just have to hope they are registered, because MANY are not. And then there are also sexual predators that have just never been caught or through the system yet. There are certainly sexual offenders in Deltona, they are everywhere. Many people move around and don't register as they are supposed to. I think if we brand these people, give them the scarlett letter, it would make it so much easier.

One of these days someone will be suing these cities for denying the constitutional rights of someone who served their time. I hope these cities end up paying billions to greedy lawyers and dirtbags. Does "sexual offender" include a 17 year old caught having sex with his 18 year old girlfriend? Laws like this are why I distrust all new legislation. Unconstitutional stupidity has unforseen effects down the road.

I totally agree. Why not also put a brand on greedy money lenders and a whole bunch of other professions whose lies and legal deceit destroy lives and families. Cause people to lose everything they have, create depression, alcoholism, divorce and even suicide with their practices. There are a whole host of people in this world we can do without and many don't even break any laws. Lets be able to identify them so we can throw rocks at them when they go by. Why do you think politicians like to travel with body guards.

I guess this topic is like opening a can or worms, but I totally agree with you and MacGuy. Branding human beings? The first thing they need to do is separate the offenses for sexual crimes. Like Rick said, an 18 year old boy sleeping with a younger girlfriend does not make him a violent criminal. They need to separate the people with poor judgment from the actual predators.

As much as I disslike sexual predators, or any criminal for that matter, I also agree that once someone has done their time, that's it - they've repaid their debt to society and we have no further right to restrict or punnish them.

Now, if you want to change the law and require the death penalty or life in prison for certain sexual predators, rapists, I have NO PROBLEM with that. But, I don't think the Constitution permits the government to make people continual second class citizens.

What about people who have "tendancies" toward being a sexual predator, but have never harmed a child or another human being - do we restrict those people too? Perhaps, because a psychologist noted somewhere in a psych evaluation that a man referenced sexual fantacizes with young girls?

Perhaps you all should realize that sex predators continue to have their tendencies FOREVER. Personally, I would not want a person around my children who is so sick they want to with children. They should forever be banned from being around normal people. When one of your children is molested, as mine was, maybe you can talk, or are you all part of the predator group? Nice how you like to blame the victim and not the victimizer. Start worrying about the children and not the sick sick bas_ _ _ _s who prey on them.
