Ok so the next time someone says, "That's not how we do it up North" I get to qualify where they're from?
Ok just kidding.....somewhat.
North of the Ga border is up North.

I would consider "up north" to be any state north of Maryland/Delaware, AND also the Midwest, when you are speaking relative to Florida. Maybe if you are living on the east coast of Florida they might assume you are from the NE with "from up North", but on the gulf Coast the majority of transplants are from the MidWest and that up north would generally mean the Midwest states.

Up north
We lived in hamtramck and had enough of the up north weather. Glad to be here in paradise. ( citrus county ) only want to go back in the summer or fall to see the grand kids.

Growing up in a southern rural area....the dividing line was always referred to as the Mason-Dixon line.
(Anything above it was where the yankees came from..... )
I was surprised no one referred to it, so I googled it and found not only the map, but an interesting history piece.
The Mason-Dixon Line - Overivew of Mason-Dixon Line

Hey, I can honestly say that I'm from the North!!! (New Hampshire)... I lived in Maryland for a while, and that DEFINITELY is not the north!!!
p.s. Frank, you forgot to mention the kitty litter you keep in the trunk - it's great for ballast in the winter, and in a pinch you can throw it under your tires for traction, if things get iced up.... oh, and the clumping kind is not the best to use!!! )

I'm from OH & never thought when I lived in SWFL & will never think it is paradise.
That being said, I considered "up north" to be anything north of the FL border.
