Unless you live in Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse it's very difficult to fathom...Winter here is pretty much from mid-November(when it got into the low 20's this year w/snow) Until Mid April... We go to Fl end of March most years and when we get home in the first week of April there was still snow and cold... Last year it didn't get into the 70's until end of May ( a bit unusual though)
That's ATLEAST 6 solid months of crap weather( We don't ski or snowmobile)....And in Oct. and April-May it rains AND is cold..40's and 50's mostly...Our nice weather only occurs in June, July and Aug.. September can be hit or miss...
From what I remember and have read...From Sept./Oct until April/May daytona /fl. is very nice and it's May-Aug that are very hot...granted it's very hot in most of the country those months...heck, chicago usually has multiple heat waves every summer...We both like lounging on a beach/ beach bar/ or on a boat.. and in a pool.

FWIW..Rochester will be 16 degress for a high this week..with about a foot or so of snow already on the ground....And it's not the white fluffy stuff, it's the dirty slushy gross stuff. Salt everywhere, my skin is soo dry I itch all day. Lips are chapped for about 3 months now.
trust me, unless you like winter sports or staying inside for 4 -5 months straight (neither of which we do) unless your tied to a job it's just not worth the winter blues for this long of time every year..
I travel around the country for work, so if I want to see snow, I will about 10 days a month during the winter..

My parents in Michigan had a roughly 8 hour segment of time in the entire month of January that the temperature was above freezing. I've got no desire to live in that kind of climate again.

In about four to six weeks, things will start warming up again, and that nice spring thaw will wash away all the bad dead stuff that died over the deep freeze. Enjoy the four seasons while you can. In the same light, it's only this pleasant and mild in FL for as long as the winter season is up "north". Therefore, if you like that heat and humidity nine months out of the year, to each his own, let's see how many years you'll enjoy those conditions, esp. if you did come from the north.

Oh please. Four to six weeks?? Our house is in the woods. We have snow on our front lawn from October to the end of april. Yeah, the spring thaw feels great, but only because it's torture until then, not because we miss the thaw itself!! We had 30's the past couple days, and guess what? Last night by 10:00 it was back down to 6 degrees again. We've also never experienced this "rudeness" you speak of. In fact, we posted on here about how we're coming down next week, and a whole bunch of people we've never met that are on this board are meeting up with us! Where's the rudeness? And traffic? Are you kidding me?? Ever been in Manhattan? Los Angeles? Now THAT'S traffic!! Here's some traffic for you: A year ago this month, interstate 90 between Janesville and Madison Wisconsin was so hazardous due to a snowstorm that traffic actually stopped in ALL directions overnight. People were actually trapped in their vehicles for something like 18 hours. Volunteers on SNOWMOBILES went vehicle to vehicle trying to help people. We're talking people with babies with no bottles, insulin dependant people, etc. Right before Christmas this year, a newspaper carrier had his car die, he got out and tried to walk to a house for help and froze to death. And numerous people are killed every single year from car accidents directly related to the weather.
And don't bother coming back with hurricane stories, I have just as many tornado stories.
I apologize if I'm sounding irritated, but I'm getting that way from reading over and over about how I should be enjoying the weather up here. Sorry. Not gonna happen....

Pretty much sums it up..... If your originally from NJ, MD, DC etc..you haven't really experienced the type of winter that we're talking about....Heck, even NYC is very mild compared to the rest of NY.. I can see why you'd like the change of season if your from somewhere other than Western NY, or Wisconsin..(I've been up there a ton, it is just ridiculously cold up there, not as much snow, but way colder.)

The cold weather ends up freezing all of the rude people away so they come in seasons up north. But to truly get away from rude people, you have to move to North Carolina. Definitely no traffic up north though, especially in the cities.

Being from CT, I can agree with this. I could not imagine living in states like Michigan, Ohio, Illonois, etc... But to me NYC metro and Southern CT are winters I can easily deal with.
This guy I work with who is from Michigan told me a story about how he threw a cup of warm water in the air, and how it froze before it could hit the ground.

I'm not trying to convince you otherwise. I'm leaving FL for different reasons that you're leaving the "north". I just gave my opinion. I agree, there are some areas up north that are dangerous to live in, whether it be due to crime, or even the natural elements, due to certain desolate areas. So it's important to have a cell phone at all times, I think, anywhere you live. It's also important to choose a good place to live.
Unfortunately, where I chose to live in FL was not necessarily the best place, so rather than make another move in FL, my wife and I choose to move back "home" to the north, where we grew up and where we remembered enjoying life, it was a matter of quality of life for us, irregardless of the weather.
In another post, I said the cold weather didn't bother me, I flew up to Chicago when it was -25 with the windchill. I layered up and dressed properly, and limited my exposure outdoors. When it "warmed" up to 20 degrees, I was basically just in a sweater and sweatshirt, no coat. And I was fine with it. I guess growing up north I can adjust to the cold quicker than I ever adjusted to the heat in FL, and I've lived in FL for at least 10 years now.
Enjoy your life down here.
