Default Systems Administrator - what part of Florida

Hello,
I have been the systems administrator at the company I work for for 3 1/2 year. I have my associates and am in the processing finishing my bachelors in Business Information Systems. I also hope to have my A+ cert before I move.
My son started grad school in Gainesville in August and I know I want to be closer to him, I am in Ohio and he is my only family.
I am not looking for a party atmosphere and the "singles" scene is not important. What is important is where can I find a good job in a safe area and still be able to afford to live.
I know Gainesville is probably out, the cost of living is high and the job opportunities seem scarce.
I would like to stay in northern part of Florida or at max about 2 hours from Gainesville.
I know all the bad weather issues and the bug issues, I lived in Homestead for 2 years what seems like 100 years ago. I am concerned about the home and car insurance issues.
So please if you have any suggestions or information about associated costs of living in Florida, I would really appreciate the advice.

I've heard that Jacksonville is one of the better areas for IT/computer jobs. I don't know a whole lot about that area but I'm sure some other posters can chime in

I think Jacksonville is a great idea. It would fit most if not all of your specifications.

The thing with Florida state jobs is that salary proper tends to not be good compared to the private sector, though the benefits are great. (Real defined benefit pension plan if you make it six years to vesting)
