Florida is not a part of the south, please do not say that."
^^^Being that you live in Miami, KevinKagy, I wouldnt say it's southern, barely even Northern by way of culture really. But when you get out of S FL and out of Orlando proper, FL is definitely southern in many parts of Central FL, Northeastern FL, and most definitely the panhandle! And I love saying that! BTW, your making natives blood boil by saying what you did.

Darn right! And I hope it stays that way too! Someone living in Miami has a very different view of the real Florida.

It is absolutely the south. Minus the charm and hospitality. The beauty of the "other" South is they are ALWAYS charming even if they hate you or are being phoney. I have no problem with that.

There's definitely folks with charm and hospitality, it's just harder to find. Go to Lake Placid or Dade City, or many places throughout Northern Florida, etc... places that havent been through major changes, population-wise and demographically.

I live in East orlando, and i see a lot of both, I'm in HS and i see a lot of "rednecks" (thats what they call them selves) and i see a lot of "gangsters" its crazy. Orlando is like the line that divides the states culture. You'll think your in the north when your in the urban part, and when you go out to the far suburbs or rual areas, like Bithlo, Chuluota, and st. cloud its very southern like.
So i'd say, anywhere north of orlando is southern, anywhere south of orlando isn't, and Orlando itself is a little bit of both.

I too live in east Orlando, but most of the time I feel like I am either in NJ or Puerto Rico.

Definetly North Florida is extremely South and the SW FL is more like NY, NJ, and the Caribbean
