I read just yesterday that Florida will go ahead and issue the Confederate Heritage license plates in the middle of 2010. Now you tell me Florida is not a southern state....... Most Floridians love the fact that this state was part of the Confederate States of America and that the yankees never captured Tallahassee....... If you dont like it yankee go home!

this is all a little surprising to me.
i've traveled all over florida, and its covered in "rednecks".
they're most apparent in north florida and the panhandle because there aren't any major cities up here for northern transplants to move into (with the exception of jacksonville, but its still pretty "southern")
the most 'southern' people i've ever met are in the south tampa area. have you ever seen a 'swamp hog' hunt?
you floridians should get out and explore your state a little more.
you are definitely "southern".

Sure, northern parts of the state that border on Georgia and Alabama are certainly Southern in culture, but they're a small minority of the state in terms of population.
Since nobody has done a poll like this before on the site, I'd like to see what the general US thinks of Florida. Not in terms of geography, but in terms of culture. Do you think that Florida is a part of the cultural South, or no?

Once you hit I-4, your def not in the South anymore...

Like you said, people who live here know the truth, though most of us frankly could care less about how we're labeled by people in the Northeast or West Coast.

I have always wondered about that...why Florida was not part of the south. Thanks for answering that confusing question...and part of Maryland like North Carolina (not South Carolina) is part of the south.

Amen man! Although I doubt I will live in FL til I die. But I am 100% native Floridian!
IMO, it just depends where you are in FL, just like many areas in other Southern states feel different. Charlotte NC doesnt feel as southern as it used to, but NC is still southern, and I'd say the same for Atlanta and Georgia.

Yea, Charlotte has had such a huge increase of people from the north in the past year! Its amazing. But I live in a small town probabaly the second "city" as they refer (more like a town) near Charlotte. Anyway my point is Charlotte has about one to two million people, though I have heard three to four million. Go outside of it, and you will see the south again but smaller populations.

I remember reading an article about CLT and how bad the traffic and such and how the drivers are getting worse. And I remember they directly talked about all the people that had recently moved there from NY, Boston, and Miami.

Thats exactly CLT. We have a had so many people come here (and they cant drive!). But they only want to live in a big city or there jobs require them to. Shoot reporters noted on the news that people that have thier BD to MD are looking for jobs as low ranking as park attendants for fun parks. I just think that people dont even realize what they are getting into when they hear "great weather, friendly people, etc, etc.
