And you missed my point. Weather can be the only factor for some people. And they will be happy.
Some of us don't need a job.
Some of don't have kids in school.
Some of us don't have to live in a big city
Some of us don't have to be in or around rush hour.
Some of us can consider the move merely due to the weather. Again that is why I stressed on my post. NJ winter? hah, piece of cake.
Yep, that's my neighbor...moved here to just enjoy the weather and have an active life outdoors. Kids all grown, fun time. Works for him and his wife!
I didn't move here with a chip, in fact I moved here glowing about FL and so happy to be out of the Northeast. It's only as I've been here awhile I realize that I value some other things (like lifelong friends and family that I miss) more than weather and the cost of living isn't as cheap as it was in 01/02 when I came. Still, it is not such a bad place to be...especially today and yesterday with these beautiful days.

yeah well I've already been in two other states since I left "home", and yes of course I miss home, but it's the people and the food I miss the most. However, I am not letting missing some friends deter me from living in a climate I prefer. They miss me that bad? they can come see me :-)
I've already lived without my long time friends, and well that's just the way life can be. They're up there today, at home, trying to shovel out of 1-2 feet of snow and their temps will be in the minus degree category (BEFORE windchill)...thanks but no thanks, that's no way to live...
Then again my very best friend 40 plus years is in Florida, so I would have my best friend. My family other than my one son is all gone now, so that makes a difference too. I really don't have any reason to go back to "home" especially to live in one of the worst climates in the US.
It also depends on how one wants to live. I can do it cheaply or as expensively as I want.
And actually as far as weather in the summer and the heat? my friend and I both together went to weather dot com and compared SC summer temps to Florida summer temps, and yep....SC is hotter in the summer, it's just our winter isn't pleasant. I can't take it. Seen the sun 2 times in 3 weeks.
I find it very intellectually unstimulating here. All the transplants who I meet ever all wantt to talk about is how "great" the weather is, their golf game, biking, bla, bla, bla. What about the economy? What about the new administration? What is going to happen in Iraq, Israel, etc.? Just give me some kind of intelligent conversation that doesn't involve how WONDERFUL living in Florida is. For this reason I stay away from transplants, especially from my home state.
As I said many times, it isn't just the weather. It's the whole bag.
Thank you Mrs. P.
Though I live in TN, we do have cold and mostly cloudy weather during the winter. We have more ice than snow when my area does have frozen precipitation; otherwise rain. Right now feels like I am living in Seattle.
I am looking forward to relocating to FL. Outdoor activities year around. Yes I am older too, so I do know how you feel about the weather. To all the other posters, activities as well as the weather is what is drawing me to relocate after retirement; being able to go to work and not be wrapped up will be a pleasant change. I'll be too young to actually retire, but not having to scrape ice off my windshield and fight traffic will be great.
Hi,what about the elementary public schools here in Florida. We are planning to relocate here, our son is not even 5 years old yet. What about Orange Park?
Yeah but not in the middle of a blizzard with unsalted roads to boot
Then again, depends on where one "lived" and where one is going to move to.
Not every city in Florida, or the US has traffic gridlock every day.
learn to swim? or stay at home and complain on internet forums all day, hmmmm.
Unfortunately there are many people like you in Florida who make it boring and would rather stay home all alone and do nothing, but to each their own I guess.
I friggin agree! People complaining about sunlight and warmth (which I think most people yearn for to feel alive inside and happy) it just doesn't make sense to me why some prefer to sit inside in the dark with a blanket wrapped around them with the AC on high and the computer on all day, no wonder you're so crabby? Get outside and spread a little sunshine on your face! Get into life. Every living thing on this earth needs sunlight and water to grow and we humans are no different. I think some of you just miss "home" and Florida will never be for you. You're allowed to feel that way but you should at least try to get out and enjoy where ever you are until the time comes when you're finally able to just move. I am dealing with this very same thing by still having to live up north here for a bit. You just make the best of it but don't sit inside in your cocoon getting more depressed by the day, that's not healthy for anyone and will finally take a toll on your mental health and physical health after awhile. Try and get out and enjoy what you do have down there. Try asking your doctor for a good antidepressant or something? Maybe something more is going on inside of you besides just "living in Florida". You may find you're still as depressed up north once you ever move back and feel just as damn crabby inside and you don't even know why. I'm starting to think with some of you, some of these issues run a lot deeper than just "living in, and hating Florida.."

Well said, even if a person is depressed or sick I would much have it bright and sunny outside rather than cold and gloomy which will make you more depressed! I sure wouldn't spend an entire day on the internet in Florida in the winter either. Winters in Florida cannot be beat! Although age and chronic illness can play a factor in one's activities as well as what part of Florida you are in. The really sad part when I lived in Orlando was even the younger crowd, early to mid 20's were boring as ever. All they wanted to do was go to the same old clubs, get drunk bla bla bla. It got old very very quick to me anyway.

that is the truth. I have to be in it outside for hours in the mid day for work. I have come to detest it. I would rather go out at night. If there is any "hidden" agenda with me, it may be do to the fact that I lived here before, moved back home, and never wanted to come here ever again.
Let me tell you, when you say goodbye, good riddance to a place, and then have to come back, wouldn't YOU be crabby?

I couldn't agree with you more. As one person stated on here they learned to just go out themselves and enjoy the activities. Thats not fun at all. I'll take the snow and shoveling and yep even the coats just to be back with all my friends.
