I grew up in FL and I'll be the first to make fun of Floridians when they complain about the cold......but 11 degrees? That's just plain cold no matter where you are! Good luck with this Floridians...lol

We took a cruise out of Tampa this November, and we constantly were rolling our eyes at the Floridians whining about the cold. It was around 65. We had on shorts and t-shirts, that's summer to us 'sconnies.
This cold snap is covering quite a bit of the country, 'course we're getting the worst of it, 20 below tonight not counting the wind chill.

Tampa's gonna be 10 degrees colder than Orlando?
Weird, it's usually the other way around....

Where I am going it is going to be 18 and -1, not counting windchills.
My luggage is packed with clothes. Who says you have to get rid of your heavy clothes when you move here?

Right now, outside my house it's -1 going down to -11 or more. There is no way Florida can be as bad as people say it is.

Well, right now in Western Ny we are at 2 degrees, with the windchill minus 20 degrees......
BUT, this is a Florida thread, so I'll stick to the topic. I'm worried that my Leesburg home will get frost tonight and tomorrow night. I have left covers down there for many of my newer citrus trees and my plumeria........my current renters are good people and will hopefully cover them and do everything they see the neighbors doing.
It is hard to have much sympathy when we live with the above temps for DAYS....all day and all night, with snowstorms and icestorms and whiteouts, etc. I spent all day yesterday going to some pretty bad motor vehicle accidents due to ice......but I do care about my landscaping at my Florida home.

Yeah, I have relatives in Jacksonville and Gainesville. I think my Gainesville relatives are supposed to get into the lower 20s.
Its unusually cold here at my place in northeast Tennessee as well. Our normal low is cold compared to Florida - our normal low for the date is 26°, but it is officially forecasted to drop to 5°, which is 21° below average. This is the coldest we have been in years and years.
I have some hardy palm trees that have had for about 6 years and never no problems. One of them is a Windmill palm that is supposed to be OK to about 0°, but I covered it up to be safe - its about 4 ft tall and was hard to cover. I also have some pine tree seedlings planted that are not native here and are borderline for this zone - (Pond pine and Sand pine, so I covered them as well). The Longleaf pines should be fine, as they are borderline, but we have some scattered here that have been in this area for 30 years. I have two, but I am not concerned. I also wonder about my Southern Live Oaks, but I think they should be fine as well. Also did not even cover the Needle Palm. I have read they are good to about -20°, so we are definitely fine. Its not been that cold here since 1985 and nowhere near that cold since - thank goodness.
Stay warm all!

They have revised the forcast to warmer temps.
Was supposed to be in the mid 20s tonite but only in the high 30s due to cloud cover.
Low this Thursday morn was 28 with heavy frost though.
Friday nite will be the cold nite they say. No where near the lows they first predicted.
