Mass Exodus is on a distinguished road
Default Homeowners insurance in St. Augustine area?

We are looking at St. Augustine and have read about the crazy homeowners insurance rates in FL generally. Does anyone know about this area specifically - have the rates gone crazy in St. Augustine too? Thanks for any input.

I would say no, you won't find the insurance rates crazy on the northeast part of the state. They are not like the harder hit places with outrageous rates. We are in the process of buying a brand new home about 45 minutes south of St. Augustine. The homeowner's insurance is in place and it's goin to be just under $1,000 a year. We first looked into buying a home that was 6 years old and the rate was just oer $1300 per year. The newer homes have more updated hurricane codes that have been used when building them.

Jacksonville / St. Augustine is in a low hurricane risk area. However, they are in a high tornado risk area. I read a study online about the area from around there over to the west side of the state, that belt is one of the hardest hit each year with tornadoes.
