I am currently researching areas for retirement. My wife and I drove through Inverness today and we thought it was a pretty nice little town. Does anyone have any recent info on the cost of an average house there? From what I see, it looks like housing is less expensive than Orlando. We don't have school-age kids so schools wouldn't be a problem. However, I would also like some info about the local hospital and doctors in the area in general.

Since your a Yankee fan I shouldn't be replying. Mets lover here! LOL.
My inlaws have lived in Inverness for over 12 years (retired fron LI) and would never live anywhere else. They researched ares for over 2 years before they decided. They live in Clearview Estates in Citrus Hills. It is a really nice community with horsetrails and beautiful homes.

I don't know too much about the healthcare system over there, as we are just moving to FL ourselves. Good Luck in your decision.

Smile Re: Inverness Info

Thanks for your reply Minnie. I have lived in Orlando for 28 years (originally from da Bronx) and have seen it go downhill in many ways. I was originally thinking of something in TN for retirement. But, after seeing the Inverness area, I may have to rethink my options. It sure is a pretty area. I still have 2 years to think though. Hoping for a subway series

We are an interacial couple, very modest and low key considering relocating to the Inverness area. How is the job situation there? How would be be received as an interacial couple? We would appreciate your honesty and openess. My husband is a firefighter and I have a Criminal Justice degree. We are vegetarians and involved in animal rights issues. Would we fit in there?

I'm not sure about the job openings for your field but we have a lot of medical facilities here. We do have a county jail in Lecanto that holds i think 700 or 800 people. There is a state prison which is just a 30 minute drive from Inverness. Actually my neighbor works there and the commute is easy and not through heavy traffic. Firefighting jobs? I'm not sure. Probably always in need. Yeah i think you'll fit in just fine here. I do see alot going on with the humane society and animals in that aspect as well. Though i'll be moving in June to go back to family up north i really enjoy living here. We still have to sell our small home but i've been here for 8 years. I live across the street from the lakes and it's just beautiful. The parks are kept really nice, the boardwalks around the lakes are nice. Any other info i'd be glad to share.

My fiance and I are looking to relocate from the north to the south. I have an elementary education degree (certified in PA) and he has a criminal justice degree. any information about the area? We love sports, outdoors, etc. My concerns are cost of living, safety, hurricane damage reports, jobs, and living arrangements. any information would be helpful. My email is brittny.malinowski@gmail.com if you would like to email me.

Thanks
