This was talking about cities, not the woods. Of course you can go live in the woods and avoid all contact with humans to avoid being a crime victim. There are no safe places in Florida cities. There are safe places in other cities in the country.

Isn't Ray Lewis from Lakeland?

yes, ray lewis is from lakeland, as well as many other nfl players who grew up in fla. but to say there are none is crazy. if your unhappy, i encourage you to move, but not lie or make things up ("there are no safe cities in fla"

It is in every cities interest to under report crime. So compare the crime indexes with the assumption that they at least compare cities.

Tampa is no more under reporting its crime than any other city. They all have chambers of commerce and other groups that put the pressure on to under report crime.

each police department in the state is required to report annually to the fbi. the fbi puts together a crime report based on this. its not the same as city-data stuff.
I mean there are plenty of florida "cities" with crime well below national standard. there is crime to some degree in every city in the country. having to live in the woods to avoid human contact to not become a victim anywhere in the state in just nuts.
those who moved to a bad place im sure see things different but the bad place they are in does not constitute "every" city. maybe the word city is a scary term but many "cities" are more like "towns" but have more commercial business in them.

So places full of "Yankees" are where there is crime? Hardly. Reality check for ya, but I'd venture that most of the common everyday deadbeats and criminals I see on the television are real native Floridian trailer types. Nobody has ever been murdered for crystal meth money by an old Jewish New Yorker in Boca!

I'm a native and I have a horse trailer and a boat trailer. The crime comes from the low wage worker. See "Floridas most wanted" and the last time I checked the old jewish New Yorker was the one saving money by using the low wage worker. But I could be wrong.

Well then you're not the type of Native Floridian I'm talking about, are you? You want to know which ones I'm talking about? Come watch my daily news. If it aint crime in the ghetto, it's crime out in the woods in the busted up trailer parks.

I'm originally from New Jersey, though I have lived here most of my life and think it's about time Floridians stop blaming "Northerners" for their problems. Scapegoats are nice when you're feeling down and out, but the original poster's swipe was uncalled for.

That old New Yorker is the only thing keeping restaurants and businesses open! It's up to the restaurant to decide if they want to save bucks by hiring illegal and underpaid workers! The State economy is based on agriculture (low wage work X 10) and service (traditionally low wage work). Until you can attract high paying professions (but they'll bring with them increased home prices and demands for more services), you're stuck with "low wage workers!"

Crime does take place all over the 50 states of this nation. Florida also is affected in some areas more than others. I live in an area that many will consider safe, but crime does take place and is a reality of this nation. The same crime problems here in Florida are mirrored all over the nation.

One important factor to take into account is the type of crime in an area. The following is a brief view of data collected by StateMaster.com:

Capital Punishment > Black inmates on death row (per capita): 7.195 per 1 million people
Capital Punishment > Total executions 2005: 1
Firearms Death Rate per 100,000: 11.1
Forcible rape: 6,612
Forcible rape (per capita): 0.372 per 1,000 people
Hate Crimes > Race related (per capita): 0.849 per 100,000 people
Hate Crimes > Sexual orientation related: 45
Hate Crimes > Sexual orientation related (per capita): 0.253 per 100,000 people
Murder and nonnegligent manslaughter (per capita): 0.532 per 10,000 people
Violent crime (per capita): 0.696 per 100 people

I still consider my area regarless of the crime rate a very safe area and many other cities or towns are also safe. We must as citizen of this state also take an aggresive approach and work with our youth to develop better individuals. By becoming members of educational and support groups we can make a positive gain and in the future reduce the crime rate.

Visit the bureau of Justice Statistics and run your own searches, the latest data is dated to 2004 but you can compare from 1976...
