I'm originally from New Jersey, though I have lived here most of my life and think it's about time Floridians stop blaming "Northerners" for their problems. Scapegoats are nice when you're feeling down and out, but the original poster's swipe was uncalled for.

That old New Yorker is the only thing keeping restaurants and businesses open! It's up to the restaurant to decide if they want to save bucks by hiring illegal and underpaid workers! The State economy is based on agriculture (low wage work X 10) and service (traditionally low wage work). Until you can attract high paying professions (but they'll bring with them increased home prices and demands for more services), you're stuck with "low wage workers!"
Sorry, I'm just a poor florida boy and aint got no book learin, But some New Yorker may feel it in there hart to tip me real good so I can bi me a pig and b a farmer somday,

Sorry, I'm a yankee and don't have time to tip. I'm too busy committing crimes with my fellow Northerners and hiring illegals to do cheap labor for me while driving up your taxes and destroying Florida because it feels OH SO GOOD!!!

Default i rest my case then

i felt very safe in one of the cities i lived in (a small town in central fla), as well as oveido, which i lived in before moving to where i'm at now. i never felt unsafe in either place. i feel very safe where i am at now as well. i would put oviedo up against asheville nc (in a crime comparison anyday). crime, drugs, whatever. and to say that all cities in fla are unsafe is truly rediculous.

and i have stated this before and will say it again: fla has less murders per capita than almost every other state in the south. look it up if you dont believe me. if one is unhappy about living here, then please move. dont make up crap please.

Murder is the only crime that counts? How about property crimes? Assault? Identity theft?

[Why do all those people move here.

QUOTE=TriMT7;450486]So places full of "Yankees" are where there is crime? Hardly. Reality check for ya, but I'd venture that most of the common everyday deadbeats and criminals I see on the television are real native Floridian trailer types. Nobody has ever been murdered for crystal meth money by an old Jewish New Yorker in Boca![/quote]

Trailers in the woods? Where at? Oh I forgot you saw it on the tv

To be quite honest with you, keep in mind I was raised up north, when I lived in Florida, I knew plently of trashy/low class people who were not natives of Florida. But I know plenty of low class people where I live now, and places I have lived in the past. Trashy, low life people are not confined to Florida. By the way, wasn't Ailene Wanous from Michigan or something? (She was that serial killer who killed men she picked up off Florida interstates in the early 90's.) And Ted Bundy was from upstate NY..the one that killed Florida teens in the 80's.

But back to the original posting, I think crime in Florida is due to the fact that the state has tripled in growth since the 1970's, so when more people move into an area, and given the transient nature of the state, I am not surprised Florida has issues with crime. But overall, it's not as bad as most people think.
