Default Tallahassee

Hello!

Two of my co-workers are going to a class for a week in downtown Tallahassee in February. I was wondering if someone familiar with the area could give me some ideas on some good, affordable local restaurants, bbq pits, laid back bars, etc. worth checking out?

I also remember an alligator exhibit or something of that nature when I was there as a kid? They expressed interest in that. Anything else they'll have to see for sure while they're down there?

Thanks!

The Tallahassee Museum is fun. Florida panthers, gators, bears, and river otters for wildlife exhibits and some interesting preserved plantation buildings.

For the perfect depiction of Florida politics, start out on Apalachee Pkwy and drive west towards the downtown capitol complex. When you're about a half mile from that point of downtown and enjoy the imagery of how the new state office building looks so perky as it emerges from behind the old capitol building.

Remember how during the election fuss of 2000, they never showed a pull-back shot of the state capitol complex? That's the reason why.

It still amuses me in a very junior high sort of way.
