State Farm pulling out of Florida
State Farm pulling out of Florida
I have State Farm Auto and Homeowners. I have had state farm auto for over 30 years and 24 years on my home. This stinks.

But it's fine. I wish State Farm could be restricted from writing auto policies in the state now too.

I suspect it's another round in the game of chicken that all of the private homeowner's insurance companies have been playing since 2004.

Even though I basically make my living dealing with insurance companies and know they have to deal with a lot of fraud, etc.... they'd have a heckuva lot less problems with their solvency if they did away with the BS "wind pool" model of business (wherein a casualty fund is only as solvent as the limited number of policies in a particular "pool").

I agree!! There are quite a few companies writing policies right now according to my agent, & as TriMT7 said, you might find an even better rate!!
I think it stinks that insurance companies are allowed to write car (or other type) policies if they refuse to write homeowner's!! That's like a medical insurer saying..."ooops...we're not gonna cover thumbs anymore"!!! (Seems like they sure DO cover middle fingers though!! )

Well, then you guys will like this one. I called to see what premiums would be after I pay off our home in 3 months since we wanted to reduce our coverage to basically clean up the lot and put 80k in our pocket as we have another home. Well, you can't insure for what you want, you must insure for the replacement cost or you must go bare. No you can't assume any risk for yourself even with a waiver.
So I think FL will lose many retirees that are willing to take some risk for lower cost as that is no longer an option. BTW, no law just industry policy.

I have had state farm for 20+ years as my auto insurer, and was paying a mere 650 every 6 months for insurance in PA. Moved here and they hiked me to 1900 every 6 months...
they stink...I will be looking for a new company.

Yikes!!! 1900/6 months?! For one car or many? That is ridiculous! You are best to find an independent insurance broker who will be able to shop around a lot of quotes for you.

Glad I never had them. Refused to insure me on my first car, dropped my mother after she hit a mailbox (they dropped a policy for something that minor)..... I have not had a good experience with State Farm auto..... so searched elsewhere for homeowner's.
