..When they walk past you try saying your welcome. That gets a rise out of them.

I always hold the door for someone behind me. And if they don't say anything - I say "your welcome" loud enough so that they hear me. Sometimes this prompts a response, but not always. But I shouldn't have to say it to get a response, I should be saying AS a response.

And oh my God, I am from NY to boot!

I always hold the door for people. I don't do it to get a thank you from them, I do it because I believe that it is the polite thing to do.
If they say thank you, that's nice but if they don't, it doesn't bother me. I don't do it to get approval from someone, I do it because I like to do it.
I am always thanking people, waiters and waitresses, store clerks, almost everyone I come into contact with. It's just a pleasant thing to do. They usually respond positively but if they don't, I don't worry about it.
And I was born in Brooklyn!

I didn't say that I did it to get a thank you from them, I also do it because it is the right thing to do. But it would be nice to hear a thank you. I am a waitress on the side and you would be amazed ot hear about the amount of people and kids that have no manners. It is up to the parents to teach it, but if the parents don't even have them, there is no chance that thier children will.

And the NY comment was for the northern haters here. Just to prove a point.

I should have put a smiley face after the Brooklyn comment.
Don't let people with poor or no manners ruin your day. Just do what you are doing. I do it because it is the way I was brought up and I feel bad if I don't do it.
