You cant be serious, Seniors show up for work, 6.15 is not much to work for
seniors are the only ones who can afford to work for it. Toll booth operators are paid very little 6.15 hr. If you want to live in Florida you must have a skill, or profession or get job with Verizon, electric co, County,City or State jobs. You cannot work at publix or toll booth.

Oh man, I don't even want to think about the impact on the economy we'll see when the baby boomers start retiring. That's scary.

Change the word Senior to Immigrant and let's see the real fireworks begin!

There's always someone whining about something in this world! If you really WANT to work, you'll find a job and if you really NEED to work, you won't be picky.
Fed up with the constant complaining of the entitlement generation! Oh, the hours are too long, it's too far, work is too hard, I don't get paid enough, I don't get weekends off or enough vacation or sick days off, the benefits aren't very good...

For God's sake, be self employed, make your own rules and live with the conseqeunces. If you're employed, you abide by the rules of the employer, and if they're unreasonable to YOU....LEAVE!!!

Just think all the boomers will be pulling money from the 401Ks, This will be each year every year as they keep retiring. Stocks will drop like a rock and so will the economy. It won't be good.

and in the next 10-20 years we will NOT be working at those menial type jobs. Companies may fold; pay out or not have a labor force.

Capitalism is a two edged sword; it cuts both ways.

I agree with everything you said. I really don't understand why anyone would question the right of senior citizens to work. They always have in past generations and the huge baby boom generation never seemed to complain about the older people working. Like you said, if you really want to work, there is some type of job available for you. The older people are the ones who make it to work nearly every day and are always on time because they don't have any hangovers to contend with or problems getting daycare, etc. They're only trying to subsidize their social security checks and pension checks so they don't become a social burden. We should be greatful for that. Many of them are also saving a few dollars to help their grandchildren go to college. It's too bad we don't have more concern or respect for our older people like they do in so many other countries. It seems that each generation is treating the previous one more like dirt as time goes by. Just in case you're wondering, I'm not one of "those old people". Well, not yet anyway.

Firemed, you're right. I never thought about the impact that will have.

Well, I feel really sorry when I see old people working. I always think to myself, "I hope they are working because they WANT TO and not because they NEED TO!"

I have a feeling that with the negative savings rate in this country, there are gonna be a looooooot of people who won't be retiring when their "time" comes!!!

I don't know about that. There are some savvy people out there who will not sit around waiting for Bush to decimate Social Security. My father grew up in the Depression, and I made a solemn vow to NEVER be treated the way his father was by certain companies. Some people refuse to be oppressed. What we do not learn from history we are compelled to repeat.

I also feel sorry if I see an elderly woman working at Wal-mart. If she was working as a tour guide or something, sure- she may just be working to occupy time. When I see how badly they are treated at Wal-mart, it reminds me of oppression and slave labor.

Helena, (my Grandmother's name, by the way) I always love the thing about being doomed to repeat history. I used to think it was just a saying, but it's actually true. I'm like you and Tri-M in feeling bad for some of the older people who are still working. I personally don't believe I'll ever be able to retire totally either. But it's ok cause I enjoy working. Bet a lot of those older people actually need the money because of the high cost of medication and health care. We all know that just because people are on medicare that they still have to pay for their own drugs plus carry a supplement policy in order to have their medical bills taken care of. It's not a pretty picture and I'll bet some of those people really need that extra money. Otherwise they'd be doing things like volunteering for fun jobs instead of working for a place like Walmart. I'll flip burgers at McDonald's before I'll work for a company that treats their employees and customers so shabbily.
