Default Closest Beach near Tally

My husband and I visiting our son in Tally next weekend. We though we would take a drive to the beach with him and his dog....Even if it is not 80 degrees, I need some sunshine and sand. Where would be the closest one to be?

TIA

The sand is the hard part. The Big Bend coastline pretty much is swamp. If you've got some time though, take US 319 southward then go south on FL 30/US 98 a little bit north of Panacea. You'll find St. George Island just before you get to Apalachicola, which is probably the largest beach within a reasonable drive.

And if you like oysters, Apalachicola Bay is where 90% of the Florida oyster crop comes from. Fresh and cheap in a lot of places around there.

Thanks!

What do you consider a reasonable drive?

It's going to be a little more than an hour to Carrabelle, which is where you start to get beach instead of swap. The St. George Island bridge is about 15 minutes past that.

20 minutes west of Apalach (on highway 98) is Port St Joe.
You could stop for a delicious lunch in quaint Apalach and then either go to St George Island or drive to Port St Joe.
Cape San Blas has lovely dunes.
Further west, just past Port St Joe and just before St Joe Beach, is Windmark. Gorgeous homes.
There is a public parking lot. You're off the highway and can walk and walk and not see another person.

The closest beach is alligator point. Icky.

Drive down to Highway 98 and go west for an hour or so to St. George Island, as others have mentioned. The state park there has one of the most beautiful beaches in the country.

Mexico Beach is right outside of Port St. Joe and is really nice. Also, check out "Gators" restaurant in Indian Pass - a.k.a. Indian Pass Raw Bar - it's off the beaten path, but it's the best place for fresh oysters, shrimp, etc. - here's their website: Indian Pass Raw Bar On Florida's Forgotten Coast

I'm going to second Indian Pass Raw Bar.
Such deliciousness! And what a mellow atmosphere.
The last time I posted its site, it got deleted.
But maybe things have mellowed out on CD since then.
