Throw in the towel on public schools, disband them, lower property taxes less than proportionally, the difference going to law enforcement.

Perhaps more seriously, corruption and inefficiency in public administration, across the board, is among the underlying factors crippling the economy.

In order for private economic agents - that especially means small businesses - to invest in real productive enterprises (and not in throwing resources away, driven by money illusion), property taxes must come down and people in public administration must also learn how to work hard and more efficiently, producing more with less.

It will be quite possible for that to happen with less money, which is printed matter anyway, and for inefficiencies to be expressed through other means than high property taxes, which contribute to crippling the otherwise productive.

But public officials are so arrogant that, in their mad dash to steal, they do not care if the productive are crippled along with the mediocre; on the contrary, they prod the mediocre to legitimize crippling the productive. The parasite will eat the host until the host dies, killing both.

You talk like I have never been there. I have lived in the Northeast my whole life. Philly is a typical northeastern urban city. Most Florida cities are typical suburban sunbelt cities with never ending sprawl and small city centers. Lets get back on topic and talk about Florida.

Thats because Florida is all so safe, lol. Lets hope you do not have to eat your words after you move here. In the 2008 crime ranking Miami is ranked 7, Orlando ranked 22, Gainsville ranked 29, Tallahassee ranked 36, and West Palm Beach is ranked 51. Philadelphia is ranked 47. I like big cities so crime does not bother me, but don't come on here spreading falasies like Florida is crime free.

Yeah, but, that's anywhere you go. Unfortunately, there are too many variables where ppl can't just get up and move. The housing market, jobs, dads who have kids here, etc. But trust me, I feel you.

As long as we're talking reality is no object, I want all the pine pollen to be non-allergenic. I'm already hitting the Claritin too much this year.

You ever wonder if some things were fixed, that maybe there would be people who would want to stay here longer?

I can give you a laundry list, but here's mine for starters:

Better infrastructure management - there's some improvement recently, but some of the on/off ramps, lane management, merge designs, etc., are simply horrible here. On the 408 and turnpike, you ever see lanes split into four and in just a few feet, not even a mile, merge back into three? What the heck is that? What school did that civil engineer graduate from?

Raise the wages for the folks that work in hospitality and give them better benefits -- no explanation needed for this one. Maybe people will be truly happier about their situations rather than having to act like they're happy where they work.

Reduce the number of tolls or lengthen the distance between tolls -- this place is such a ripoff it's not even funny. Not only are the tolls close together but they are high.

Institute a state tax -- yes, put in a state tax. So many people complain there's no funding for education, state budget crises, yada yada yada. I'm willing to pay state taxes as I did up north, because I could see where it goes to, excellent infrastructure support and management, increased law enforcement, money for schools, etc.

Increase law enforcement -- along with a better infrastructure, I think the fact you see cops at corner obviously make people behave. It was hilarious, on the corner of Alafaya and 50, when there was a cop sitting right there at a corner, people were coming to complete stops before they made right turns at the light, versus breezing right through or making rolling stops, cutting off people and nearly hitting pedestrians.

I'm sure I can think of more, but this is all that I'll vent with for now.
