I am reading a lot of this and it just seems like people who don't like Florida are already grouped into the people who hate it by the people who love it (get it?!?).

I don't want to risk "losing it" in front of all those people sitting in the blazing sun for 6 hours with no shade. I cannot do it. I am too afraid that after about an hour, let alone, SIX I will be screaming get me out of here.
I want all you people to just stop and think your a minute. How would YOU feel sitting outside in your "bone chilling cold" with snow blowing in your face for 6 hours. That is precisely how I feel facing the opposite alternative.
Don't you DARE tell me I will not be happy ANYWHERE. I was happy where I was, and would be ANYWHERE in this entire COUNTRY where there isn't ENDLESS BLAZING HOT SUN.
I am made up my mind. If it means divorcing my husband of 35 years, or eating cat food for the rest of my life on a street somewhere, I am going to do it. Anything will be better than this PRISON.

Well, don't take it that far. I know what you're going through. Though I can deal with the idiosyncrasies of living here, as well as the heat, my wife feels the same way as you do, with a passion (if not anti-FL, definitely anti-Orlando). Therefore, even though I have a job here which I can basically retire from, I decided it was not that painful for me to find someplace else to live and ended up securing a house up north, so my wife is very happy that she has something to look forward to, a destination out of here in three more (long) years. Though I pretty much am settled in FL until we found our place up north, I do look forward to the four seasons again, particularly football season in the fall, holidays in the snow, spring renewal, and in my case, not having to do the lawn down here anymore. I'll only experience 3 months of heat in the summer, I can deal with that. Hang in there and discuss it with your husband. He should at least find a place where you both are happy to live.

That's an insensitive thing to say. Honestly, my mom really isn't like this in person. She hides it pretty well.

I won't go that far, but Rachel I think it is fair to say that I have been very patient. Aside from being annoyed by her chasing me around here, I feel really sad for her. She must be an emotional mess (I don't mean that in a bad way, I'm being sincere). I think most of it has to do with the fact that you guys (you and your sister) aren't there with her. I was on the Proskauer Rose website yesterday and saw a desktop support tech was needed in NY. Tell your dad to check it out, I'm not sure that is up his alley or not, but maybe the prospect will help you mom begin to feel better.

Moderator cut: comment Many here tried to be nice to her and understood her problems, but for her to come back on with a new name after being banned is beyond me. And being allowed to do so.
There is enough decision making to be made for someone to move to Florida to have to listen to the constant rants about how bad Florida is, come on, we all know every state has its problems but for someone to pound it into others heads the problem is the state, the people, and everything under the sun in Florida is plain ridiculous.
Her post I am sure influence those people who see the negativity by her and used her postings to make decisions. Lets not forget, not everyone believes everything posted in a forum, but some people are extremely gullible.
I know there are negatives in Florida, we all do, but it is no way any different then the negatives we have in other cities and states.
If I was that miserable I would be gone, no matter the job or the pay, I would work 2 jobs if I had to. Why live your life being so miserable like that?
Someone needs to tap the hubby on the shoulder ( hint hint ) and tell him he needs to get her out before she blows a gasket. Dang, don't the guy see what is going on at all?
Also, anyone in IT should be able to make some amount of money freelancing, building websites or something. Heck, I own 4 websites myself and make 800-1000 a month just from google adsense and links. Actually building one right now that will make at least that per month with some work.

I'm really trying to be nice, but I really felt like she was picking a fight with me, I had enough! I know she is going thru some things so, I'm trying to let it slide, but I am still that NYer that is so often spoken about on this forum. Basically, my patience are running thin. As a true southerner would say "she's workin my last nerve".

I am sorry but I try to avoid it, I know she is having some problems with living in Florida. Moderator cut: comment
Anyway, I hope you find that perfect sun spot in Florida someday too!
Save some room for us, we have one foot out the door ready to go anytime we can.
This past winter just about did it for us, it makes us know we made a huge mistake coming back to Ohio 20 years ago. What a stupid move! Life would have been so much better getting to spend 20 years in the sun, close to the ocean and being able to do the things you enjoy. I tell my kids all the time, DO NOT live your life doing things you do not want to do, find something you love to do and do it well, the rest will fall into place.
And I would never influence our kids to stay around us if their lives can be better somewhere else. We allowed both sides of our parents to do just that and it was wrong of them. We now have enjoyed them but have not got to live our lives the way we wanted. Around the sun and ocean.
We ware waiting on a couple things before we can do anything here but look forward to the day we can finally call Florida "home".
