I agree. They obviously have something to gain by their over the top pro-Sunshine state posts. I wish I lived in their Florida. I'm not sure what else could be their motive for wanting people to move here , unless they really hate it too and just want others to ruin their lives. I'd rather try to help others than try to destroy them.
Now if I was retired or a millionaire it would be an entirely different experience living in Florida. I love the beaches, lakes, wildlife, fishing, swamps, marshes, parks, etc but it isn't worth the reduced wages and horrible working conditions imho.
The stores here won't accept sunshine dollars, so why am I being payed with them?

, What part of Florida are you in, lol? Last week (mid-DECEMBER) was even hotter than summer (JULY) in PA. Summers in PA are 75-85 and occasionally 95 for a day or 2. Here they are 95+ with pure humidity almost every single day for months and months straight. Maybe it's just here in Lakeland but these summers are HOT and HUMID!!!
I'm sure you were just joking though and it was a good one .

and South Florida. Leaves changing? Putting heat on at night? HUH? Not in South Florida. I had lived in Gainesville long time ago. I was totally unprepared for the difference in weather between there and Naples. OMG. What you say is very true. 75-85 degrees in winter here in the SW. Summers are 95+ with heat indexes over 100 degrees day after day month after month. It wasn't like that in northern Florida. I remember high 60s and low 70s in December. We had to put on the heat regularly at night. My NY summers were about the same as winter here, 75-85 degrees with occasional 90s. No comparison to summers here. It is going to highs in the low 80s through this Christmas week. That is my NY summers, not even Spring.

Well, I for one am not selling anything in Florida, and it doesn't matter to me if I'm the last person moving there. As I clearly stated, there are appealing aspects to Florida for those who are retiring.
I just think that for C-D to be the most helpful, it needs to be better balanced. I think some negative threads are actually good, to shoot a dose of reality in those who blindly think the whole state is a utopia Disneyworld. When negative posts are all you read, and the few who do post positive experiences have their motives questioned and are put in a defensive posture everyone loses.

We don't usually allow pics like this in the Florida forum....but since this thread IS supposed to be about NY'ers missing their beloved state, and since I AM here, I thought I'd post a picture of what I was doing all day....snowblowing. The pile at the end of the driveway is over 5 feet....with a windchill of well below zero. Which we could trade places!!
If any other mods think this should be deleted, feel free to delete the post. I bent the rules a tad due to the title of the thread.....but of course I always want to play by the same rules everyone else does.

Wow, that's a whoooole lot of snow. That "big" snowstorm only hit NYC with about 3 inches of snow. Less on Long Island. It's funny--when I went to school in Cortland in upstate NY, 3 inches was nothing. Here downstate, it's considered a snow storm lol.

A good friend of mine went to Cortland. Of course I had friends that went to Colgate, Ithica, Cornell, and Cuse. Its funny, but I tell my kids that after a night of snow, I used to walk a mile down a dirt road, that had about 8" of snow on it to get to where the school bus would pick us up before school. Then after school, we'd get dropped off, and we'd have to trek all the way back up that stupid hill to get home. oh, and before school we had to bring buckets of water up a hill to the barn before the cows needed to be milked. They've never experienced anything like that. I wouldn't want to do that now, but wouldn't trade the memories.

My son goes to Geneseo College and is home for the holidays. I have to say, he is so upset he missed that snowstorm....NOT! lol....The year before we moved I got my husband a snowblower, I'm guessing my neighbor back on Long Island is getting plenty of use with it now!
