Default Florida Grass Cutting Poll

Just wonder how current and former residents handled grass cutting when living in Florida.

The way the economy is today I'm surprised many people would pay to have something done they could easily do themselves (unless they're elderly, then I can understand). Lawn mowers today are so simple to use, even most push mowers are self propelled.

When I lived in Orlando, I used to mow the lawn myself with an average-sized push mower. With the low wages I was paid in FL, I wasn't going to waste any money on something I could do myself.

I COULD do my own lawn.... but I don't want to.

"In this economy," I think it's not a bad thing to give some business I can afford to a local lawn maintenance business who may go out of business and lay off more people if everyone started doing everything by themselves.

I'm all for "cutting back" and "saving," but I think we all need to realize that cutting back TOO Much isn't exactly going to help the economy AT ALL.

I hire the mowing/trimming out to a very good local lawn mowing service because of course I do not live there yet.

Their price is VERY reasonable......and that is my problem. When I DO move there in a couple of years, I will need to decide if I continue to let them, or start to mow my own.

Here in NY, I love to mow. I have about 3 acres and mow with a 52" professional grade eXmark zero turn mower.

I need to decide when I move do I....
a) let them do it, because the price is so good
b) Buy a new smaller mower and do it myself
c) Move my eXmark down there with me, and start mowing my own and others for a good side business......

Default Hire someone

We have a Floratam lawn, my husband always mowed, he enjoyed the exercise plus gave him somthing to do, after his death, the kids were small and I tried to mow, I nearly died. The kids mowed every now and then but it was hit and miss, I finally hired a guy to come weekly, I didn't have to worry about the lawn looking shabby, it was well worth the money. $50 a month. He weedwacked, trimmed and blow the driveway and walkway.

Its just way to hot and humid to mow, edge, and blow, then where to store a lawn mover, weed wacker, edger and blower, if you want to diy perfectly. I am not going to put all that sticky equipment in the garage. Its just easier to pay someone to make it pretty every two weeks, while I have my coffee watching.

You can tell the lawns in my neighborhood that are done by the homeowner (which are few) vs. those done by the professionals, the ones by the professionals are perfect.
