Tallahassee or not?
Hello, I'm a italian girl of 27 years and I decided to stay 4 months in Tallahassee for an English course in the A&M university.
I'd like to know how is the nightlife in this city, if it is easy to meet people and if there are dance courses while not attending the Unversity ...etc etc...or if a city is not recommended... practically if life is only in the university or is a city that offers life outside the university...
I am very undecided!!! I'm waitinf for your advice
thanks

I lived in Tallahassee for 18 years and raised my daughter there, at 18 she choose to go to college out of state, she was so bored with Tallahassee. I have moved too for the same reason, you are a 2 hour drive to any other cities, Tallahssee is pretty much just the capital and the 2 universities. There are plenty of student oriented clubs on Tennessee Street across from FSU but given you are 27, most of the students will likely be younger than you, but maybe you wouldn't mind the age difference. Hope this helps you some, for 4 months I could pretty much adapt to living there if the studying you are doing is going to add value to your resume.

It's a great place to raise a family, but not the first place I would look for a night life.
Just curious, but how does an Italian national end up studying English at FAMU?
FSU would have been a better choice for that I think...because FAMU sucks.

Do you know anything about Florida A&M? Have you visited? Just making sure you don't make a decision you regret...On to your question, Tallahassee has great night life for college students. Plenty of bars and clubs. Almost everyone that goes to college here loves it and has a great time.
Why Florida A&M? Why not Florida State? I think that your opinion of the city will be very different depending on which college you attend, as well as your social network.

I have recommended the A&M University, and before the arrival date of the course, a course free of English at Community College...
I read informations on internet about the city and sure is a beautiful city for college students
that's why I ask myself if there is opportunity to know students of my age.
Strell, why do you think FSU and not A&M?
and other city should I?

Heck, we visited my son at FSU a couple of weekends ago, and we his 45+ parents had a great time.

To put it mildly, FAMU is a badly run school with endemic problems that are not going away any time soon.
It's also not in the best part of town. FSU is not in the best part of town either, but has a much better security situation.
Also, FSU has an excellent English department - I got my degree from it.

If you can change your school do it, Tallahassee has horrible nightlife, it's a small city, and very redneck. I'm a junior in college, trust me when I say the town sucks, A&M also sucks. FSU is a good party school, but it's not like those parties are advertised, yet alone would be fun for a 27 year old. Even I am tired of those kinds of parties, I enjoy real nightlife, nice bars, nice ultra lounges, nice comedy clubs, nice jazz clubs...Tallahassee really isn't worth visiting for an international person.
What other choices do you have or is it to late?
Send me a direct message and I can give you my e-mail if you want specific advice. I lived in Australia a few years as well, so I'm used to giving advice to my friends from overseas that come to the U.S.
Take care!
Once again, the city is BORING, there is no scenery, there are no world-class anything, it's just a typical small town in the South. Sorry to offend anyone, but would you really spend thousands of dollars and many hours of traveling and choose Tallahassee as the city to experience life in another country? NO lol.
San Francisco has a lot of English courses, you can get around without a car, it's a beautiful city, there are so many things to do, there are many city events that are unlike anything you've seen before and there are many dance schools. Just a thought....anyways let me know your options and what you want out of your experience here =)

Tallahassee is not redneck. It has the highest educated population in the state (50% college graduation rate). It also votes Democrat in every election since elections have been had. Does that sound redneck to you?
