Hi!

We are looking to take a long weekend break to somewhere in/around Destin, FL.

We want something oceanfront, not overrun with kids, and a location where we can walk to dinner and nightclubs/activities/shopping.

Having never been to Destin before, I am trying to narrow down where I should start looking for condo rentals. I appreciate any feedback!

(we had started looking at Portofino Resort, but I read that you have to drive pretty much everywhere there, and it is pretty isolated.)

Destin's inherently pretty sprawly. But for something a little more compact, I'd look in the Sandestin resort and take their shuttles around the property or one of the little beach towns in the Beaches of South Walton area like Grayton Beach, Watercolor, or Seaside.

Just wondering ... have you considered the Beaches of South Walton along the Scenic Highway 30A .... just a little east of Destin but within driving distance to Destin.

We see that you are looking for somewhere not overrun with kids. Destin can get a little crazy in season. The Scenic 30A has a bike path that runs the entire length. There is shopping in Rosemary Beach, Grayton Beach, Seaside, Watercolor and Santa Rosa Beach. There are also many delicious dining options along the way. However, there are really no "nightclubs" to say. The most popular entertainment / hot spots would be the famous Bud & Alleys in Seaside and the fun & funky "Red Bar" in Grayton Beach. If you want "nightclubs" you would really need to head to Sandestin's Baytowne Wharf or AJ's in Destin.
