Default PSL or Martin County

Port St. Lucie has a lot of homes for sale...you could find a cheaper new home there..but the quality of construction is suspect ..you really have to look them over....WP Beach seems very crowded when I go down there...some nicer old homes..but very expensive...Lake Worth area seems to have a lot of gang problems...3 killed a few days ago....I live in martin county...nice..quiet...homes can get expensive..but it's a buyers market...insurance is expensive...but might drop a bit..the killer in florida now is property taxes..the county and state are on a spending spree...and it's not going to stop..forget about any changes...once u homestead your propert is lows down the increase..but they get around it....no state income tax and that helps..utilities are not so bad if u use ur fans....all in all I like it here..I lived in San Diego for years and is very similar to that area..I think with the real estate slump, and if u can buy..you could buy a very nice home here...

Interesting...there has been more landfalling major hurricanes in the northeast than in the northern east coast of Florida!

West Palm Beach, POrt Saint Lucie or Vero Beach are good options for families.
My husband, daughters 15 & 6 and I are thinking of looking to purchase a second home in Florida to spend some time at but stay on Long Island,NY full time.We are middle class, with a good income and finances and in our mid-forties.Looking for an active, safe family-oriented nice neighborhood that is close to shopping, recreation, good schooling and not too far from the beach.Want to stay as clear as possible of hurricanes.May choose to live there full-time in later years.Any suggestions for nice family communities? Only been to Orlando, unfamiliar for most part.We need proximity to the necessities and fun---we are close to beach and NYC and can't be bored.Any help appreciated!!!!!!

Staying away from hurricanes in Florida is really not an option ... you just never know where they will go .... but you do have a pretty good idea and if you are prepared, you can choose to leave ....

But do check out the Northwest Florida Panhandle and the Emerald Coast ... we've got amazing clean, white sand beaches, warm, emerald green & blue water, rare coastal dune lakes, nature trails .... great laid back beach family vacation region ... we do have shopping and some night life ... but it's not big city .... check out Beaches of South Walton, Florida Travel & Vacation Guide - Northwest Florida's Gulf Coast to see beaches where we live. If you need any recommendations or suggestions, please feel free to ask ....
