As I go through the people I often get a sense it was a couple of young people that had known each other for sometime and decided to do the nasty with one of them under 18 and the other over 24. I have no concerns for these people. I think we have a massive over reaction in the country towards some offenders. If they snatch a kid from a playground... ok sex offender... but it is mostly these types I would notice or care about... Seems we are crying wolf which concerns me. that the real dangers may be overlooked.

Actually Florida is a bad place for kids due to lack of good paying jobs for their parents, rampant poverty and high crime rate in ALL the major cities, and lack of accessible services for low income families!!!

The median income is higher than 15 other states, $3000 higher than NC and only $3000 lower than NY.

There are 32 states with a higher poverty rate than Florida. NY and NC are 2 of those states.

Florida's crime rate could be better but there are 10 states that are worse. NC is at 15.

I don't know which services for low income families you are talking of so I can't comment on that.

Overall Florida has been a great place to raise my family and I have made a good living here without any real threat of crime.

If you have any differing facts to refute what I say please post it as facts are generally easier to believe than one persons opinion.

Well the thread is about SEX OFFENDERS, and Florida has major problem dealing with it's registered sex offenders and you know it! The fact that the registration period is essentially lifetime for most makes your state have more and the fact that draconian laws in some municipalities in Florida make it next to impossible for those individuals to get ahead and form normal lives again so as to be LESS of a threat of recidivism has made it seem that down there is BIG safety issue when in fact the issue is exacerbated by the media and the politicians and causes a Catch-22 situation where the problem SEEMS bigger than it is and therefore more laws and so on and so on....

The rest of your reply is typical drivel from real estate folks that are mostly out of touch with the communities they actually serve by virtue of
seeing everything through the "market" lens!!!

roncorey...

I agree with much of the above post. One problem is where the released S/O or S/P is supposed to live. Restrictions are such that the approved places have a very high number of registered SO's. And even for those who are well qualified for employment, few employers will hire them. And in this economy, nobody will hire them. I've even read of some instances where the person is getting out of prison, has no money, no family, no where to go so DOC releases him to a homeless camp!

There are plenty of knee-jerk reactions from the media, even from neighborhoods. But most of all from politicians who think they're going to capture a few more votes if they seem "tough on crime", especially sex offenders.

When kids are being arrested because they take pictures of them selves and send them... this is a sex offender? Give me a break. I think most if they were honest would admit to a game of sho me yours and I'll showe you mine... kids today just get to do it with technology. This does not make a sex offender and authorities need to give it a rest. as do parents when they find out their kids are doing it...

I've looked on the registry and found one listed a block away from me... guess what? He doesnt live there. So we have this great big database providing inaccurate information... wow just what we need. you think they are one place and you avoid it just to find out they are where you went. feel safe now?

Florida has some of the strictest registration laws for sex offenders thus they will have more offenders listed.
NY up until a few years back only had the worst offenders listed as is the same with other states.

As I stated earlier in the thread, Florida 20th in rapes per capita meaning 30 states have more rapes per capita. They are also 5th highest on the number of names on their registry. This would point to Florida being more vigilant in making sure offenders get registered.

Please don't rely on the old, "typical drivel from real estate folks" line. I posted facts to support my statements, if you can not do the same then just say so.

Actually, it is VERY true. There is a huge immigration of sex offenders from other states to Florida because the cost of living is lower, it's always warm down here, and they move to get a fresh start, so Florida is a huge target.

Yes, sex offenders are bad everywhere, but Florida is one of the worst.

Not sure if FL is one of the worst, per capita. But we definitely have a large number, in the top 5 I'm sure, as expected due to our population.

Also, you have a good point when you say, "There is a huge immigration of sex offenders from other states to Florida because the cost of living is lower, it's always warm down here, and they move to get a fresh start, so Florida is a huge target." I definitely agree.

I don't get it. People are whining on this board about the high cost of living in Florida but now it seems to have a low enough base to attract and accommodate all of the nation's sex offenders.

Florida is a kicking post for whatever or whenever anyone is having a bad day. I hope most of the readers disregard these negative posts.
