I moved to Florida 10 years ago, I live in Central Florida. The climate, the climate, the climate! Some people don't like heat & humidity, but I love it. In fact, if I could I'd move to south Florida as the winters can get a bit chilly in the Central Area.
The only advice I can give to you is make sure you have a job first. Also, make sure your house is located high & dry. That was my biggest issue when buying our house, fortunately we've never even had standing water in the yard.

Central Florida not a destination? No hurricanes? Less crime? No resorts? That's pretty funny.

If you don't live near the Attactions or the beach, then it's not a resort area. I think she said she was moving to Marion County.

I was thinking the same thing too man. Less crime than South FL? Probably. But no resorts and a place where people live, not play? Dont know about that one either. Orlando's very transient.

I don't know what neighborhood you live in but the entire metro area isn't what you're describing. I've met plenty of people who've been here for 10+ years.

I seem to remember two hurricanes in like 3 weeks that totally missed S. Florida but directly hit Orlando a few years back. Orlando is one of the top vacation destinations in the U.S. as well as being number 2 right behind Las Vegas for conventions. We all know Orlando has plenty of big city type crimes, home invasions, robberies, road rage incidents, freeway shootings, etc. As for resorts, well they are world class and are major attractions. Yes, Florida is the highest transient state and Orlando isn't exactly small town America without its share of transients. I think someone was sold a bill of goods or something.

She said she was moving to the Ocala area, not Orlando, so I don't know what your point is. And all of Orlando area is not resorts and Disney tourists. Lake and Seminole county definitely arent that way.

I havent met anyone (I live in Waterford Lks) other than a few family members that have lived in Orlando for longer than a few yrs. Most of them, were not even born in FL.
I wouldnt say 10 yrs is a really long time. In general, do you not see Orlando as very transient? Even my family members who have lived here for a while hate how transient it is here. It's only gotten worse the last 5-10 yrs as things have DRASTICALLY changed in Central FL.

We're heading to Ocala -- Orlando will be somewhere to visit (I hear they have great bird fairs there), not live.

Thanks. I paged back and saw it. I never got an e-mail about your response (Hotmail? C-D?), so I never saw it.
