My husband hates shoveling, BUT he also hate MOWING GRASS too. Can he escape that in Florida too? No, we live in a development where he doesn't have to. We PAY them to MOW, so why not go the whole route? Snow, leaves, GRASS.

Yes, why not? You should go where you are happy. Life is too short.

I'll be 54 in July, and I don't consider myself old by any means -- but I've had my fill of shoveling, digging out cars, and scraping ice off windshields to go anywhere. I went to Easter Mass in a snowstorm when I was a kid -- in New Jersey, which isn't exactly the frozen north. Enough already.

Have you ever been to Florida ?
Most people that relocate there are atleast 50.

That's never happened to us -- despite our having three neighbors on our very short block with snowblowers.
My husband hates shoveling, BUT he also hate MOWING GRASS too. Can he escape that in Florida too? No, we live in a development where he doesn't have to. We PAY them to MOW, so why not go the whole route? Snow, leaves, GRASS.

We like gardening. Taking care of the grass is part of that -- so we intend to get a riding mower when we move. In fact, we don't want to live in a development where property maintenance is part of the package -- I'm very territorial when it comes to my garden, and I don't want anyone else taking it upon themselves to make decisions that are mine to make.

There's nothing to say to this but...wow.
Actually, there is more to say. Even when I was your age (the age in your profile, at least), I didn't think 50 was old. Then again, when I was your age, I'd been working with the public for 11 years in three different jobs, and had been exposed to people of all ages and ethnicities. 'Old' is a state of mind -- not always a state of physicality.
Check in again in 24 years and let me know then if you still think 50 is old. My bet is -- you won't.

"Florida. Where America goes to die" "Florida. God's Waiting Room"
You can certainly make the case for these in Naples.
I am 60, but you have to call it as you see it. Sorry, if that offends some of the "youngsters" on here.

I didn't say there was anything wrong with older people. All I said was that's what seems to be moving to Florida.
Hell, I have old relatives. Only 2 currently live in Florida and much like you Tan, The others, they say they don't want to be a joke living in Florida. You're a punch line if you're over 50 and live in Florida.

There are older people everywhere. In my hometown on northern NJ, the demographics show that 1/3 of the residents are seniors.

that is why I posted about those tshirts, and Naples. When you are 60 years old and half the people walking around are old enough to be YOUR parents, what can I say? People may make jokes about it, but it IS the truth.
I also was not referring to you when I said "youngers". You can be an old coot in your 40s, too. It's all attitude.
