Palmetto bugs
I had never seen one until first moved down to Bay Harbor Island. Do they like the beach? how do they survive even w/ monthly extermination?

They can't be exterminated only controlled. They have a natural mechanism where when they are going to die they release an egg pod that has dozens of eggs that survive them. So for the one you kill it is replaced by dozens more. their numbers can actually increase geometrically. An interesting movie if you could ever find it is "The Hellstrom Chronicle". They were here before us and will be here long after we are gone.

Not to worry Minniemom - I haven't seen one in years. We have our lawn treated every two months and the outside of the house -- and we are good and you will be too. Congrats on the new house !!

Awe, thanks. I know my husband just treated the lawn yesterday. I'll make sure he keeps it up!
To my understanding, palmetto bugs are big roaches!

You are right. Palmetto bug is just a fancy name for a roache.
